That would make it easier. Just copy the fuse ribs and use them on the floor.

Hello All!
I have been following this thread for a while because I have always been a fan of the Fourstar series. I really like a lot of the modifications that you guys have added to your planes (counter-balanced tail, and rounded off tail surfaces and wing tips) and ya'll have built some beautiful airplanes. I have always wanted to build one of these planes but I have always had a few issues #1 I have zero experience building, #2 I am a recent graduate from college so I have no time to spend building that I would rather spend not flying! So here is my question would anyone be interested in a contract to build one of these for me? We would work out the plans and modifications before hand and I would pay for all expenses plus would drive to pick up the plane. The money would be up-front so that there wouldn't be any issue there. If anyone would be interested in this please PM me and we will start to work something out. I live near Clemson, SC in western south Carolina. Thank you, Tyler

Boy that would be some drive to pick it up here. I know because I have drove down there.

Distance isn't an issue for me, if there is a beautiful airplane on the other end of the trip! My pup and I always look for a good road trip. If anyone likes to build and cover let me know please. I will allow for all the artistic freedom you like!

Three day road trip if you drive fast to me. If I recall it was about 2,700 miles from here to Atlanta. We did go on to Orlando too, I forget if the 2700 was to Atlanta or Orlando. I drove home from Orlando in 4 days.

If I had the time I would take you up on it. I would love to build another one, but just dont have the time. Right now I have a Cub to finish(check out the SIG Brotherhood thread to see it, a Corsair getting ready for paint, help my Daughter build her LT-25 I got her for her birthday, and a P-51 that I started a few years ago that has been heavily modified, and is just about ready for glass. If I do an iron on, I can usually cover it in just a few days, but the cloth takes months due to all the dope that needs to be done for it to look good. I briefly thought of selling mine, but I put too personal much into it, so the only way it goes is in a trash bag or I die. The only thing I would part with is the Chipmunk, and a Funtana 90s that has never left the ground. Now that I got large enough packs and the plane balanced I enjoy flying the H9 twin Otter so not selling that one either, though had considered it prior to trying out larger packs.

Now if you can go smaller, the 4*64 ARF is a good plane, easy to assemble, and flies just as nice, just not as big.

Just don't put a 95 two stroke on the 64 like I did. It won't take the speed and the horizontal stab will flutter and break unless you put flying wires on it.

No plan on overpowering this bird if I can get someone to help me out with a build. I am just looking for a light, straight flying airplane with "ample" power.

I think a 4*64 and an FG-14 Saito would be a perfect combination. Just the right amount of power, and very long flight times.

I am just really looking to step into the giant scale category with this next plane, that is why I am pushing off the 4*64 until a later date.

Its a good start thats for sure. If you find a 4*120 ARF, dont buy it. The wings are weak, which means you would need to do surgery before you can even fly it.

I finally got a chance to get some more work done on my plane. I am almost ready to join the wings but will build the servo boxes first. One thing I just found is that the left wing is almost 3/32" longer than the right. I thought how the heck did I do that. I compared the wing panels to the plans and they lined up perfectly. So I measured the plans and the plans are off. The left wing on the plans is longer than the right. I don't want to tear out the outer rib on the left wing to shorten it so I will make a hollowed out 3/32" rib and glue it to the outside rib of the right wing and then sand it down until they are the same length. Then I will glue the plywood tips on over top.
I wonder how long the plans have been off and how many 4*120 planes have one wing slightly longer than the other?

I would not worry about 3/32". The plane wont care, and I doubt you would be entering any contests with it where they will be measuring the wing. On mine I put on rounded tips, and shortened the wing one bay, and never compared the two with each other before joining them, and the best part is it balanced laterally. Pretty good considering the wingtips were carved from solid wood.

The DC-3 flew quite well when a DC-2 was mounted in place of a damage wing. (My father in-law did this once) and verified the only downside was the bolt holes didn't line up.

So, no activity in this thread for a while huh?

I posted back a couple years ago in this very thread that I would like to one day get one of these kits. My very first kit build some 150 kits and 18yrs. ago was a 4 Star .40 which was a very nice sport flyer. I think it took me 6 months to finish eeek! Well, I finally got a nice 4 Star 1.20 kit a couple weeks ago. The build is super fun and easy....the only thing that is making it more time consuming is the few mods I am making. Like most, I have shortened the wing by 1 bay. Most of my changes are to the fuse to make it look more like the 4 Star 54 and 64 versions. They have a taller, sheeted turtle deck and the fore deck is constant all the way up to the firewall. The canopy will also be cut way down. I'll try and post some pics when I can. I'll be using an XYZ 20cc that I got from Valley View a couple years ago........it's just been sitting NIB waiting for a home.

I haven't been on this thread for a long time as well. Good to see it again. I'll repost a couple of shots of my 4*120. It has just a few mods as well. I still think the coolest thing are my fire retardant bays and doors for fire fighting

Good Luck to Everyone on your recent builds

That is how I picture it should look. It is very similar to the planes that fly around here for crop dusting. With the right electric set up, it can have that turbo prop sound too.

Making more progress on mine. Since this is s sport plane, I'm trying to keep it simple. It's weird using the control tubes. etc. they call for. I've not used a control system like that in years and it seems awkward. I normally use a direct linkage with servos in the tail. Have any of you had any problems with the stock control setup with the servos mid-fuse? I know that the tubes can shrink etc. with heat/cold but hopefully it won't be bad.

Thoughts?

I moved the elevator servo to the tail, the rudder is pull pull so no tubes to bind.

I like a pull pull on the ruddertoo, but I haven't had a problem with the golden rod pushrods I use.

Do you have the kit version or ARF?

Both. Modified the kit per the ARF, though the ARF decided to shorten its wing in flight, and why I got the kit.
