Need some info on Sig 1/4 Clipped Wing Cub Kit .60-.90,86"
I was contimplating on getting this one the Sig 1/4 Clipped Wing Cub Kit .60-.90,86" or the Great Planes Piper J-3 Cub 60 Kit .60-.90,90". I thought about the Sig and making it a 100". Which would make a better plane for a G26? Or? Also I was wanting to make the wings 2 peice. Has anyone ever built this plane and do you have any pics and specs? Maybee a set of plans?

RE: Need some info on Sig 1/4 Clipped Wing Cub Kit .60-.90,86"
I have the kit and am getting close to starting construction. Here are my thoughts.
1) If you want a 100" wingspan purchase a larger kit. This would give you the increased fuse width to accomadate the G-26. This fuse is far to narrow and the plane itself is overpowered with a 120 4s.
2) This kits one piece wing is a big one at 86". I plan on building the wing in three sections, center, left, right. Some have already succesfuly completed this mod. Information is here http://www.thecubden.org/ for about the best one. I plan on doing mine totaly different, but I have a lot of experience.
3) This is a builders kit! Lots of wood and blocks, sanding, cutting out of parts and so on. But in my opinion that is why we purchase kits. My view is I got more enjoymnet for my hobby dollar.
I might be encouraged to do another cub build step by step on line. Would that interest any one? I plane on competing in sport scale with this model and use a 120 4s with the Hazel Sig paint sceme.

I have built the C/W Cub and it is a great flying plane,
If you do a search here in the kit forum you will find my build from start to finish. I made several modifications and added Robart gear. The plane is abuilders kit and plan on spending at least 200 hrs building the plane. I put somewhere around 300 hours in mine.
If you want a 100" wing I suggest just buying the full wing version, the plane will handle a G-26. I fly mine with a Magnum 120 and it is a perfect match.
Here are a couple of pics.

G-26 is definitely too big for the GP Cub, which is approx. 1/4.7 scale. I fly mine with a Saito .91, which is plenty of power for normal flying and even flying with floats. With either one, I'd want a 4 stroke in it. You just can't beat that realistic sound.

A G-26 will be fine, maybe under powered. Most full scale clipped wing Cubs were made for acro. I searched the web before I built mine and found them with up to 300 hp! One I found clipped the wings, then took the tips off. The owner said it rolled faster than his Pitts. The one I modeled had clipped wings and half the tips removed. The tips were clipped at the center tip rib. Looked great.
If you want to fly around like a full scale, long wing, 65 hp Cub trainer, that's fine, but don't let the old foggies tell you that clipped wings weren't loaded with tons of power and hot rodded around. They were.
I had an OPS Maxi 30 cc engine (18-10 prop) in mine and thought it could use more power. It was fabric covered so it was slightly heavy.

This is great! Good pics too. I have the GP fabric covered with a Saito 72. I love it. I dont mind the build time. Shoot, I would even opt for a bigger one if I find it. I would like to go gas though. And fabric.

I have a set of plans for the Bob Nelitz %33 J-3 Cub,
The plans are pretty straight forward and you can build it with as much scale detail as you want. I would recommend at least a G-62 for power. There are Nelitz plans available on e-bay for around $20.

from what I can tell, correct me if i am wrong, the Sig 1/4 scale cub kit can be extended to a 108" wingspan for a full size wing settup? The balsa USA 1/4 scale kit has the same specs except the longer wings. Being that it will accomodate a 160 4 stroke (sig) or threrabouts, then what would be a good gas engine? G26 or larger?

You can get the Sig 1/4 scale in the full or clipped wing version, both planes will handle a G-26 you just have to set the firewall back a little. I highly recommend the Sig Cub for it's flying characteristics you just have to be willing to do alot of building to get there.
I do not want to sell my Nelitz plans, I plan on building it in the next year or two. Do a search on e-bay in the Hobby section for a J-3 Cub and you will find the plans there. From what I hear the Nelitz Cub is the most scale Cub around.

I have no clue about the BUSA kit,
Khodges has a kit waiting to be built maybe he can chime in and let you know some about the kit. From what I have heard the Sig kit is a sturdier plane than the BUSA. If that is the case then I would go with the Sig kit for a G-26.

BTW, a full size factory Cub has a 35' 3" wingspan. The Reed clipped wing kit (very popular modification) removed 6' (four rib bays) from the span.

ok, so on the sig cub which is clipped right?, how much do I need to add to make it a standard wing? I am into regular slow flying and no airobatics.

I would just buy the 1/4 scale cub, unless you already own the clip version. Here is a link to the Sig web page http://www.sigmfg.com/cgi-bin/dpsmar...FV4.html?E+Sig

CUBNUT,
I found your building forum. WOW!! all I can say is WOW!. Man you done a GREAT job. Let me ask you this, I built a GP F14 Tomcat, would this Cub be the same level of difficulty? I have only built 3 kits and fixin to start on my 4th. But WOW to yours.
