Great Planes die cutting
I've just started taking out and organizing the die cut
parts for the GP 33% Extra 330l.
The die cutting of the ribs seems to be ok except that in many of the ribs about 1/4" at the end of the trailing edge is not cut at all.
Die cutting in other areas is quite poor, most notably in the wing spar shear webs which have slots in which the ribs are supposed to line up in.
Check the pic I have attached, the slots are supposed to be 3/32,
in one case its much less and crushed and in the other its cut nicely but much larger.
Looks like its time for Great Planes to change those dies are retire this kit if they don't.
The wing tubes are not phenolic but paper, I'm gonna have a problem with this since I live in the tropics and sudden showers are not uncommon, paper wing tube getting moisture could be very bad.
The holes in the ribs for the wing tubes are also quite slack in many cases, I will have to make a doubler on the ribs.

lenny...If you have what seems defective cutting in your kit you just might try emailing GreatPlanes. I've built several kits of thiers, not all perfectly equipped, but anything that went wrong, I do have to say they were first-class in fixing it. One example is very simple..I got a cracked canopy in a new kit...oh well..I emailed GreatPlanes with the problem, my address, and 3days later I had a new canopy...anything I've ever had that was GreatPlanes/Tower/Hobbico has been immediately remedied until I was satisfied.
BTW>>>That kit is going to be my next kit purchase...I can't wait.

I agree GP has some of the best customer service around. But a great company ?. Not IMHO. A great company would get it right the first time and wouldn't need all this aftermarket service. Why do we have to waste our time getting replacement parts and correcting there mistakes (read as tech notice) while paying top dollar for there kits.
