want to build 1/3 scale high wing
i have looked for some time now for a 1/3 scale highwing kit. I know about the Balsa USA CUB kit and will probably end up ordering one but it is not what I want. I want a Citabria or Decathalon, something that can handle some light aerobatics. a clipped wing cub would be ok but not my first choice.
I have built several kits with elevating levels of success after each project, but do not want to tackle a build only from plans.
There are many 1/4 scale projects, even arfs out there (especially cubs). I love the bud nosen citabria, but it is not the size i'm looking for.
Can anyone help?

Look at the Wendel Hostetler Plans,
There are several Kit cutters that offer kits for his plans, he has a nice 1/3 scale Decathalon. The pics I have seen of them look very impressive.
Good Luck!!

I'm in the process of building a Hostetler C-150. It's coming along nicely. It's my first from plans and is fairly straightforward.

Cutting a kit for a large plane is actually pretty easy. I cut my Ziroli Stearman out in approx 20-30 hrs. If you have a band saw, scroll saw and a disc sander it isn't very hard. The Laser Cut kits are nice but you are paying someone else to do the work and you donot get to select your own wood.
Here is a pic of my Stearman framed up.

Find one that you like, take the plan to Kinkos, and have them blown up (hint make square marks at each corner of the original plan, and check the measurement on the blown plan. any deviation or skewing will quickly become evident. Once you have the plan, you can shoot repros of the individual parts and cut them yourself. That is the best part of this hobby (not having to settle for what someone else thought was perfect).

Hi, I know it isn't a Decat or Cub, but it is 1/3 scale and a high wing. I will be starting one sometime in the near future. Try http://www.bridiairplanes.com/hangar/corbenbabyace.html
Good luck in your decision! Ben

Anthony,
i was surfing threads and saw last year where you posted a question of maybe enlarging a sig citabria kit to 1/3 scale.
Did you ever pursue this idea? i am very interested in exploring this further as a future project.
did you build the 1/6 scale?

I started the 1/6 and scrapped the build,
It was a real pain in the arse, I would not suggest blowing it up except with a stick on dynamite
Later!!
Anthony
ps. The Sig 1/4 scale Cub is a good build but the Citabria doesn't compare!!

RE: want to build 1/3 scale high wing
very interesting... what was wrong with the kit/build?
I started the midwest kit and scrapped it as well. i wanted to build the smaller kit then blow the plans to 30-33%. my problem was the wood included in the kit, most of it i was replacing. i got tired of putting money in a kit i didn't intend to fly.
this approach seems like the way to do it though, if you build the small one, the scratch build of the larger should go together quickly. cutting the large kit is the
only problems you should encounter. you need to template the parts ahead of time for the future kit cutting since these types of kits do not come with parts lay out
