RE: instructions for royal p-38 kit
I've orderd the Royal plans set..but I have heard now that the P-38 is a very unstable aircraft. Is this true only of the full scale aircraft-told lots of pilots were killed flying this thing.
Could I be asking for a handlful of trouble?? Anyone fllying the P-38-your results appreciated.

Hi!
The Marutaka P-38 (Sold by Royal in the US) is a very stable flier and easy to fly ...you will have no problems with it if you are a competent flier. Use light .40 engines like OS LA 40 and Tettra "Bubble-less" 240cc tanks (8oz) and you will have a very reliable airplane.

RE: instructions for royal p-38 kit
Keith, thanks for the instructions. I may be this winter before I start (or sooner If it gets too hot in August here in southern Indiana.) I spent the past week end in eastern Kentucky at the Mint Julip scale meet (at Rough River State park) looking for ideas regarding the P-38. A comment was if an engine goes out it's a big problem with this aircraft. like any twin I guess. I do have some experience with multi-engine-I have the 81" OV-10 Bronco from Rich Uravitch plans. So far no engine out.
It flys great. What's been you experience flying the P-38?

I can't help you with that. I have not built the P-38. There are a few threads on RCU about this plane. Opinions seem to vary. My plan was to make the first one pretty simple and as light as possible. If I have success at that, then I may try to make one a little nicer.

RE: instructions for royal p-38 kit
I bought some plans for the Royal P-38, full size, about 8 ft. worth, rolled up and shipped nicely from someone on E-Bay for about $19 or so.
Now that I read all this, I don't remember if I had any instructions.
I bought the kit used in the 80's and it was missing the leading edges and root ribs only.
With the plans I received the ribs and bulk heads are shown nicely in full size and one is able to trace and make copies to cut out what ever you need.
Do you really need the instructions?
Thanks,
Silver

RE: instructions for royal p-38 kit
Silversurfer... not really. I have an original kit too from the late 80's early 90's and the instructions aren't al that much help. There are no photos and the build instructions are in paragraph form. They also assume you know your way around the model very well.
