Hog Bipe Completed! Whad'ya Think?
Heres some pics of my new toy for this year. This was my winter build and it had it's maiden flight a week ago. What a sweet flying airplane! This is my largest aircraft to date and the "bigger flys better" saying is true! Hope you enjoy the pics, if you have any questions or comments, please share!

Thanks for the comments! The white is Ultracote, the trimwork is Monokote applied with the "windex" method. I'll tell you what, this was my first time using Ultracote and I love the stuff. BTW, if you have any pics of yours, please share!

HI
It looks great. I was thanking about a hog bipe for my next plane. I’m building an EAA bipe now lots of soldering & shaping involved. How did hog build? It looks pretty straight forward but looks can be deceiving.

Onepern,
I've built 3 Hog Bipes and I can tell you that it's a great building kit. Great quality and easy to build.
TomCatDriver,
The "windex method" is a technique for laying down monokote on top of another covering that doesn't use heat. The major advantage of doing it this way is that it allow for precise positioning of the top sheet and that the top covering will not bubble up because you don't use heat to apply it. The ammonia in Windex actually activates the adhesive in the Monokote to apply it the coating underneath. It only works with Monokote though. You can use it to apply Monokote over Monokote, or Monokote over Ultracoat. I use it to apply all the graphics to my planes. Here are a few examples of what can be done with it, all of the graphics on these planes were done with windex.
For more info on this method check out the thread [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_603331/anchors_603331/mpage_1/key_flag/anchor/tm.htm#603331]Applying monokote graphics with windex.[/link]
Hope this helps
Ken

Great Looking Hog!
Gotta love them lil' piggies! What you got pulling it around? I've got a Saito GK-100 in mine. Almost unlimited vertical, and a ball to fly!
Here, take a look!
I used monokote and the 'windex' for the topside, used some "Toughlon" (china-kote) for the checkerboard on the bottom.
The Guys in my club are trying to talk me into scaling up the plans to about 70" or so.. and with access to an Engineering copier able to make enlargements, well, lets just say that i'm grabbing huge sheets of balsa and squirreling it away for winter!

Great looking bipe Mike! I've got a Thunder Tiger .91 in the nose of mine, seems to be a good match with a 14*6 prop, definately not starving for power!

Thanks for the feed back.
This will probable be my next plane. It’s about time they’ve started to come out with some modern construction style bipe kits. There are so a lot of easy mono plane kits out there to day. But most of the bipe kits are old designs with lots of soldering and wood blocks that have to be carved ad sanded. I always loved Bipes but avoided building one until bought one at an RC action. First flight and I was hooked.

Grayhound your gonna have to wait before he can recover yours he has to fix up the hog after those nose first landings he has been pulling off.
They are nice 3 pointers DB but they do not do so well for the props.

I can't wait to get mine back into the air, I had the maiden and went well and have had nothing but crudy wheather every weekend since. I'm dying for the second flight..... Yours looks great, I love the way your elevator looks. Good colors too.

Daunte,
Mine will be up in the air again Wednesday, looking at a high of 80 and decent winds, if you pack up now and hit the road you may make it

RE: Hog Bipe Completed! Whad'ya Think?
Just got home from a 78 Degree, very light wind all day at the field thing with my Hog Bipe... You know how once in a while you get a hold of a day where your thumbs are "on their own" and doing things you'd never think possible? Yep, one of those days.... BTW, these things flat spin like crazy! snap and a half from knife to knife, just about any kind of tumbling manuver you can think of! If anyone is wondering whether or not to build one of these, don't think about it, just build it, you'll love it!

If I did'nt know I would take a wrong turn in Albakerky (as Bugs would say) I would be there in a heartbeat, mcmike So you say it tumbles well HMM I do know it flies inverted well though hehe. Two guys I fly with tell me I should put all decals on upside down because I fly inverted pretty well and when we are all flying together I follow them that way and would'nt you know about a third of the maiden flight was inverted, only with slight down you can keep it level at a little better than half throttle (I have a saito 100 in mine) and inverted snap rolls are fun just got to remember down instead of up. I did keep it in the air for a good flight, I managed to fit a 14 oz in the Hog so I do get some time up there.

I have found that negative g snaps on mine are borderline vicious[>:]. The first time I spun it the plane it took a full revolution to get out, made me a bit nervous

RE: Hog Bipe Completed! Whad'ya Think?
Spins are a bit agressive. I've found mine will snap and spin with no aileron at all, but I've got all the rudder throw I can get out of it. If you flat spin it, it gets really tight and fast, but not too flat... and you have to put it back into a normal spin to get it out, so have a ton of altitude before you try it the first time!
