Default Top Flite P-47 cockpit

I'm building the P-47 60 gold edition and am having trouble understanding the instructions razorback cockpit fairings and cockpit fairing former as shown on page 20 of the instructions. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Default Top Flite P-47 cockpit

I just finished this step on my TF P-47. Grab a jar of hobby-lite filler and build-up the concave area leading up to the canopy in light layers until the concave section behind the little fairings is flush. The pattern on the plans that looks like a sliver of balsa is intended to fill the gap between the canopy and sheeting as it curves upward towards the spine. I had to make my own, custom fitting it thru trial and error until it fit just right. Take your time and look at it in indirect light as you sand. If you're working in flourescent light, get rid of it! You MUST have incandescent for this as the shadows it casts are the indicators as to what the 3-d
form you're creating is. Tilt the fuse away from light source so you can look at the area from above and sight down the length. The shadow will reveal any imperfections you need to sand or any low areas that need filler. I wish I had pictures to show u. I re-read procedure 10 times before it dawned on me as to what they were talking about in the instructions. An 8 or 10 in. piece of pipe insulation with 220 grit around it works great as a sanding block for this. Switch to 320 when u get close to desired
look.
