Looking for 1937 Aeronca LC kit or plans...
I am looking for either a kit or plans to build a replica of a 1937 Aeronca LC. Go here: http://www.airventuremuseum.org/coll...ronca%20LC.asp and you can see the airplane that I want to build. This plane was actually owned by a good friend of mine's uncle and now is in a museum. My friend actually tried to buy the plane from the museum but they wouldn't part with it so we figured the closest we would get would be to build an RC version. I would like a 40 size or bigger (but not too big). Any advice on where I can get either plans or a kit? Also, if I find plans for a smaller or larger version can I just shrink them or enlarge them and build the scale size that I want or do other factors change when re-scaling an airplane design?
Thank you!

Dave,
You probably already know this but there are 8 on the FAA Registry.
You can see them by state here:
http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinqu...0&cmndfind.y=0
I have dealt personally with the EAA Airventure Museum and have always found them to be first class in every respect.
Sometimes, and I am only speculating, the family or deceased owner of the aircraft donated may make it a condition of the gift that it be held in perpetuity.
So don't despair.
They may only be obeying someone's final wishes.
Good luck!

Oh!
Forgot to mention.
If you click the state shown you can see the owner and listed address.
You may be able to contact an owner that is interested in selling.

Thanks for the reply...
The airplane was sold by the estate to another private owner who in turn donated it to the museum. If I'm not mistaken the museum owns the plane now. Oh well, like I said we think it would be fun to build a couple RC models like it and fly them. Now we just need plans or a kit.

I built this one from plans by Tom Hunt of Modelair-Tec. It claims to be a model LA/LB, but looks just like what you show.

Wow...that is beautiful Les! How does it fly? What size engine do you have in it? Those are great looking LG fairings, were they hard to make? Is the whole plane made of wood or is there fiberglass on it too?

Well, you may not like this Dave, but the motor is a phasor 30/3 on 10 NiMH batteries. It flew great, but was not the easiest build I have ever done. The wheel pants are 1/64 ply, shaped by a balsa piece at the wing, and the landing gear strut. No fibergalss, but I did have to vacuum form my own cowling and cockpit.

Did you pattern that after any certain aircraft? It sure looks a lot like my friend's uncle's plane! We were wondering how you would put a glow engine in it with that cowling design. You have to cut out for the engine and muffler, I guess. I thought about one of those RCV Engines....I think that would be the least invasive engine design for that cowling style if we wanted to use a glow engine. They are expensive, though. Maybe we will just build ours electric too. Thanks a lot for the pics...if you have any others that you took during the build I would love to see them as well.
Thanks again!

When I was going to get started, I Googled, and came up with this one. It is in a museum, and may very well be your friends uncles. I didn't document this one as well as I have later builds. Mostly I have started documenting so I can remember next time how I did it this time.
