Any chance anyone still has the full size plans for the bipe 40?

I just paid $200 for a “New in Box” kit that is missing the instruction manual and the full sized plans. I am desperate!!!!

Wannabejess,
I have the plans for the bipe 40. I bought a kit off the bay a couple of years ago and haven't been able to get to it.
Did you contact the seller about the missing plans and manual?

Yeah he said he would "Take care of it" He is supposed to call tonight. I haven't even mentioned how long it took to ship this kit to me. something like 14 days and I am only one state away. teh box arrived with a big crease it it but I only found one damaged piece. I can replace that easy enough.

I am afraid he just wants me to return it for refund. I have wanted to build this since I was 16 ( 25 years ago, whoa am I really that...) You just cant find em any more thats why I paid so much for it. IF I can get the plans somehow I will ask him to refund the difference or whatever. So I am willing to pay whatever it takes.

I have found the manual on-line. Great Planes said they are not sure they still have the plans, they guy was new and could not find a listing so I am supposed to call back tomorrow to see if the expert knows anything different.

I am sure I can not build it with out the full sized plans.

I have a link to my incomplete kit if anyone is interested. http://picasaweb.google.com/wannabej...ortsterBipe40#

P.S. sorry to have bombarded everyone with PM's and emails, I am just sick over this.

Rook, If this doesn't pan out and I send it back to him I will have $197.00 minus shipping to spend on a "New in box" GP Sportster Bipe 40 if you are interested in selling!

Wow I have had four responses to help me out. (and one well wisher!). What a great group. Okay I promise pictures when shes done too!

I will see if I can get a partial refund from the seller to off-set any costs and hassles I have to go through.

Thanks Guys!

You know, out of all the planes I've owned, built and destroyed, there are a few that I regret turning down, # 1 the sportster bipe, #2 the mach none and #3 a rv-4 kit from the 1980's that was sitting in a hobby shop that went the way of the do-do in the mid 90's. I wish I had a sportster bipe, it reminds me of the days before computers invaded radios and you spent maybe 30 bucks the whole season on fuel, and thats if you flew 2 days on the weekend every week for the whole summer.

Here is a scanned picture of my Super Sportster 90/120. I built it back in '91 and flew it for about 4 years and then I took an extended break from the hobby. I now fly all gas models and gave this to a friend in the club this summer. It has an ASP .91 for power. When he picked it up I put a squirt of fuel in it and it fired up first try after 13 years of storage.

Well, this is the only picture I can find of my Sportster 20. One of my favorite planes I ever had for sure. Found it hanging from the ceiling of the LHS and took it home and threw a Webra .32 on it.

This picture was the result of a high speed snap roll. Turns out the builder didn't use glass on the center section, and whatever he did instead wasn't all that great. I actually rebuilt it after this crash (probably for no reason other than hearing a spectator call out "there's no way he can rebuild that!" ), and later lost it to a mid-air while flying it in combat. It survived the first two mid-airs I had with it, but not the 3rd. I'd love to build another one some day if I could find a kit.

bringing this back from the dead.

4S 2600
power 25
750W
~4lbs with floats
3lbs without.
It is massively overpowered.

Searching for a sportster bipe to put on floats next. Someone sell me that one that's been lurking in your basement for 10 years.

Here is a Super Sportster Bipe I completed last summer. It flies very nicely with an OS .46. I also fly a .40 size Sportster on floats. I like all the Super Sportsters!

This was the plane I learned to fly RC with and stick build kits in 1985. i built the .20 size first with an Enyo in it. It lasted 3 days before I found a tree was closer then it looked. Not to be discouraged the shop had the .60 size. So I built that up and it was like huge to me back then. I have to say they fly like very well. I also find I progressed faster with this kit over having to start with trainers like the Ugly Stick. As I learned to land tail draggers from day one. They have some aerobatic features that make them great trainers for those wanting to learn the tricks.

The best part about the plane was its tip stall. As it taught me to pay attention to air speed and how to notice when I was close to stalling. As it wasn't so bad as some can give you no warning at all. I ended up building the next two from the plans only and made the landing blocks stronger. I also used 45 min epoxy and 100% alcohol 50/50 mix and sealed the engine and fuselage radio compartment. It was light but strong as metal!

I have to give credit to Russ the shop owner. He taught me to fly them over several weeks of trainer cord time. When he had a shop to run and still found time to spend hours teaching me and others the ins and outs of not only flying but how to improve your skills when things go bad and make good decisions. As there was no aid of the flight sim or computer. You had to learn it the old fashion way by building and flying them.

I might add. You can order any kit plans from Great Planes they ever made. I think they were $10.00 from them.

I am thrilled, after a few years of trying I have got my hands on a nib Super Sportster 90/120 kit. My last one was built in 1991 and last flew in 2015. It was destroyed when my friends home was one of the thousands that burned to the ground up here with the wildfires last year. It was powered by an ASP 91 two stroke until 2008 when the engine was switched to my friends 1.20 four stroke. When I build this one my plan is to use my OS 1.20 AX in it. I will use the white/ dark red scheme that is on these pics of my SS 60. Here is the last known pic of my 25 year old Sportster that still had the original yellow/red Monokote on it.

Did you finish up yours with the 120AX in it? If so, how did it fly? I am in the covering phase on mine and am going to be using the same powerplant and was just curious.

No I haven't even started it yet. I am retiring in the next year so I won't be building anything until after we move.
