Your opinion on a scratch build
I would like to here your opinion on an idea I have.
I am thinking about building an 1/3 scale Mini Bell. The plans show a 25in wing, I am thinking about enlarging the plans 50%, to a 37.5in wing. I hope the larger pieces make it a little easyer to build. I would be making all of the parts from scratch, wing ribs, fues, tail, ect ect. Now, I have never built a plane from scratch before. This will be a lot of work I'm sure. Do you think I am biting of more than I am ready for??????
One more thing, If I enlarge this set of plans will I need to add more ribs or fues parts?
Like I said, It is only an idea.
Thanks

For your first scratch build (or as some would say "plan build") I would pick a plan that is already the size you want. Enlarging plans usually calls for more than just making the sizes bigger.
You say the mini Bell is 1/3 scale at 25" wingspan. That would make a 75" wingspan for a full size plane. Yikes!!!

I think what you're looking for is a regular sized Junior Falcon. I built a Mini Bell from scratch in the original size and it was supposed to be a scaled down Falcon 56.....or was it a scaled down Senior Falcon? Anyway, the Junior Falcon is just about the size you're describing, and somebody who frequents this forum even makes, or made a kit for one. It might be worth looking into.

Yea you are right
It is a third scale of the SR Falcon. I just thought it would be a little easyer to build if I enlarged my plans.

It can be done if you go about it the right way. First a shop with the right tools helps. Second take your cost estimate and triple it. Third if you get to a point were your stuck just go to sleep the answer is hiding in you brain and it takes time to come foward. Fourth a good balsa supplier. I like Lone Star here in Texas. Even if you don't got with plan right now down the road give it a shot you won't be sorry. Good Luck.

Maybe I will just build it to the size of the plans. I am not to sure about cutting out all of these little parts.
Like I said only an idea.
Thanks everyone

http://www.earlyrcmodels.com/
This is a link to Early R/C Models who made the Jr. Falcon kit. The owner has sold his operation to Wing Mfg, but it might pay to check with them about the availability of a kit. It would be easier than building from plans.....unless that's what you really want to do in the first place.

I like the idea of a kit. I will look into that .Thanks
I was thinking about a slow gracefull electric. If I build it, I will enter it into a build contest that our club is putting on.
