CG Bucker Jungmann Update
Hi. your Bucker is looking great. I kept the plastic running the hole length because it makes it easier to work on the fuel tank area. I have some pictures if your interested.

Nice plane, mskaerjr. I see what you say about acess to the tank area, but I'd rather just have the whole area sealed-off and tied in to the firewall with the ply turtledeck.
Jetranger, I picked this kit up second hand, so it still has the 5/16 sheeting which required a little filler to even out some areas.
Here are some pics of the completed tail feathers - I like to run ahead and finish certain parts, 'cause it keeps the project interesting.

This is a great airplane, and Goldberg (Lanier) ought to bring it back out. I bought the fiberglass canopy/front deck from Stan's along with the glass cowl. Have a Webra 120 in it, with a Perry Pump. Rudder is super effective.....you can find yourself climbing on point or slow rolls if you aren't careful! You will love it!

FYI, I needed some parts that were missing or misplaced (aluminum cabane struts), so I called Lanier and they still carry replacement parts for it.
Do any of you guys know what the all-in weight of your planes is??
I'm think I'm going to use an inverted mounted Saito 150 and hope to get in at 10 to 10.5 lbs.

A guy in my club flys the bejesus out of his on a Saito 180. Seems like a good combo. I think your weight target is a little optimistic.
BTW, I'm finishing up a CGM Ultimate. Just started covering. It has a Saito 120. I was able to get it balanced with no tail weight. It's still going to be heavy with that 2 pound engine though.

OK, LuvBipes, in the interest of furthering RC information, :-) , I went back out to the shop and checked my log book. On good scales mine weights in at 10 lbs 4 oz. ready to fly, dry. Has a Webra 120, on Sullivan soft mounts (about 4 oz), Slimline Pitts style muffler, 15x12 APC (also heavy), a Perry Pump, Stan's fiberglass cowl and upper deck, and Monokote finish. It flies "light" at that weight.

I forgot to mention, it tended towards nose heavy, so I have the rudder servo at the very rear of the fuselage, and the battery is also half-way back to the stab. Then no lead was needed.

Azcat, Thanks for taking the trouble to dig up the info on your Bucker. 10.25 lbs is what I was hoping to hear! As tou can probably see from the pics, I'm going w/ a fabric finish of white Solartex over red Super Coverite (the good stuff they stopped making), so without a pump, a lightweight Dave Brown plastic mount and the stock Saito muffler, I might make it to 10.5 lbs or slightly less.
I've made provision for dual elevator servos in the tail, btw and will use a central servo for a pull/pul rudder installation. I have 4 Futaba 9001 coreless servos for the ailerons/elevators and a Futaba 9202 for the rudder.

I think you will pick up a little weight from the cloth covering, but save some by not using the soft mounts, etc. I question the need for two elevator servos....I use a JR 4131 with a split pushrod running to each elevator, and have never had a problem.
In fact, I did the same thing with the Goldberg Sukoi, with a Moki 1.5 in it, and had no problems with it either. You could save a couple of ounces there. It will be one of your all-time favorite airplanes IMHO.

I’ll be weighting my bucker tonight and I’ll let you know what the weight is tomorrow. I have a Saito 150s with a Slimline Pitts style smoke muffler running two servos in the wing, two mini servos in the elevator, ¼ scale servo for the ruder, and the stock motor mount. I do not have the pump or tank for the smoke system yet and was going to fly it first and then add it.

Azcat, you're absolutely right regarding the elevator servo. I flew a 1/4 scale pitts ARF (Cermark) for 2 seasons and 100+ flights with a lowly single Hitec 545bb servo on elevator. I would really wring that plane out (R.I.P) and never felt any lack of elevator authority.
I keep telling myself that it's good to have the redundency of 2 elevator servos, but to tell u the truth, I just got lazy! It's soooo much easier to setup dual elevators in the tail that to do a Y-pushrod installation.

After my CG - I wanted another-- but nobody made one--there were lots of Jungmisters, but no Jungmans. I finally found one in March of 2001-- an Old Pilot kit 1/3 scale for sale online. Much too nice for me to goof up, so I got my buddy/builder/craftsman to construct it for me.

Engine is a Taurus 3.7 --Bambula 24/8 prop to start with. Hitec 5735 digitials on rudder and elevator--5945s on ailirons. I did not like the open cockpit , so I got a GP 1/3 Pitts canopy to try to duplicate the GC look. 1740 sq inches of wing---about 24 lbs--84" wingspan. Thanks for asking--look for the finished pics in the giant scale forum soon

Thanks for the info - I bet you're going to have a ton of fun w/ that bird next season.
Those old Pilot kits really are the best all-wood kits ever made, huh? Pity they're no longer made.
One of my prized posessions is a Pilot 1/4 scale Super Decathlon that will probably be next winter's project.

I also had the Decathalon. It was a GSP ARC, but what they did is to take a Pilot Kit and frame it up to ARC. It too is a great flying bird. I had a 3W 24 on mine--power was marginal and when I finished, I needed the weight anyway. A G38 will be perfect. You cannot beat Pilot kits. It took me over 2 years to find this Jungman. You don't know it yet, but that CG Jungman will be one of your favorite planes when you finish. Trust me on this one.

Pic of Covered Fuse
Been busy at work, so progress has slowed since January. Here's the covered fuse. One final coat of clear to seal the trim, and it will be ready for the engine and radio gear,
Still haven't got around to painting the canopy and seting-up the cowl though.
