Default Four * 60 - What motor to use???

I am building my first kit; a Sig Four Star 60. I have experience with 2 strokes (OS .40 la & TT Pro .46). Is this a plane that I should but a 4 stroke on, and which one ? I feel like I hear a lot about four strokes on RCU. Let me know what everyone else flies on your 4 stars!

Use a 91 4 stroke on that plane and you will love it. Saito would be best for size and weight. If Money is a problem, get a Magnum or look for a good used Saito on Ebay or RC Universe.

I had a TT Pro 61 in a 4*60. When the engine ran well the plane did all I wanted. I wouldn't recommend the TT Pro 61 but I would recommend a ST 61 or OS 61FX. I have 4 ST 61's and not one OS 61FX's however our club is totally infested with 61FX's and all are well liked.

My 4*60 has a TT Pro 61 and it flew great! I had a problem last season with the engine, but after I replaced the bad plug, she purr'd like a Tiger. No offense guys, but when I find myself giving tips to ‘newbie’s’ I have to keep cost in mind. Yes Saito, OS and Super Tigre are great engines, I fly all based on application, but lets not scare ($$$) the newbie away.

If you’ve had problems with a certain type of engine and it’s been consistent across the board within RCU, I have no problem with steering someone away. BUT if the engine was temperamental from the start, wasn’t broken in properly or just abused, please don’t knock it. Again, I’m just stating an opinion, I haven’t had any problems that weren’t my fault with the engines I have (maybe I’ve been lucky), and the engines I have (OS, Saito, Thunder Tiger, Super Tigre) based on application have been excellent to me, as I have been to them….food for thought….

Default 4-Star 60

You want vertical. My recommendation is to remove 1 rib from each side of the wing and use a Magnum .91XLS or OS .91FX. These 2 engines are built in the .61 case and weigh no more than the .61, but provide more power.

For the really power hungry, try an Ultra Thrust tuned muffler.

Yep, I'd go with what Ed said, or get the TH 75 and save $50. Plenty of motor for that airframe. I want one when I grow up...

I still have the TT Pro 61. It is about 4 or 5 yrs old. It was sent back to Dallas Tex when TT was hq. there. All the carb seals were replaced but engine was still inconsistent. It was later put in a Great Planes FW-190 ARF and intalled in the 8:00 position and it continued to be inconsistent so I replaced it with a ST 61 ring. I offered it to a club member this summer who had to send his Saito 91 (in a 4*60) back for repair the eternal use of this engine but it was rejected - and he went and got a OS 61FX. I'm now completing my 2nd Aeromaster 60 (the 1st has a ST 61 abc) and I thought seriously of installing it in that plane but instead bought my 4th ST 61 ring on EBay. So it sits here.

My 4*60 is 3 years old. The Thundertiger .91 4st pulls it through anything I want it to do, starts and runs well every time. I am a sport flyer, and I fly this plane alot.

YS91 AC but now switched to a TT .61. I think the YS was more fun, but it went into a 108" Cub.
