Building the SIG 1/5 Piper Cub kit

RE: Building a Piper Cub kit,,,Help
Piper sold a "Delux" model that had wheel pants, according to Historic Aviation Album (Paul Matt), which shows a picture of one. This was NOT a Super Cub -- it looked just like any other J-3, jugs hanging out in the breeze, but had a nicer interior, red and cream dope...and wheel pants.
I think others also added them as aftermarket items. They have been more common on clipped wing versions, also show up on regular ol' J-3s. Do a picture search. Jim

Ok, I have stared my build and I already have a build question. On step 9, where it says locate the two 3/8" x 3/4" x 4-15/16" grooved hardwood landing gear blocks, where are those located? Are those on a laser cut sheet somewhere or do you cut them from one of the sticks they supply you with?
Thanks for all the help

Update...
I just found them in the bag of parts they give you

RE: Building a Piper Cub kit,,,Help
I started mine yesterday. I have been building for 40 years or so and I have never seen a better kit than this. I've built probably 10 or so Cubs and this one is the daddy of em all. Great wood, cleanly cut lazer parts that fit together with swiss watch precision. Sig really did this one right. This surely was no overnight design job for Sig. If you want a Cub that looks right on then get this one and build it. My hats off to Sig. Great job!

RE: Building a Piper Cub kit,,,Help
I just got the O.S. 70 surpass II 4 stroke motor and I have the dubro 12 oz recomended tank and have a question about setting them up. On the fuel tank when I set up the lines, do I want 2 vent holes or just 1? In order to mount the motor you have to install the motor mounts onto the firewall, can anyone tell me if the positing on the plans for the mounts are in the right place for the o.s. 70 motor?
Thanks,
David G.

RE: Building a Piper Cub kit,,,Help
Once I do get around to starting this winter build of 2 years...!!! I have a new ASP 70FS for this build and will fit Dubro DB682 anti-vib mounts too. The problem will be that I'll have to make a cut away in existing firewall and build in a new firewall behind that first - possibly same situation as with the OS. Its not an issue though and I'm sure I remember a few others who engineered around this too with great success.

Ain't it the truth? I wish they'd redesign the 1/4 scale the same way. Mine's in the need for some serious repair work, due to my stupid thumbs and the loose nut between the sticks. On a better day it looked like this

Yea, The 1/4 scale is not as good of a design as this one. I built 2 of the big ones years ago and painted them with Superpoxy paint. They were great flyers but this new one is just as good a flyer if not better. I used Monokote on this one and lustercoat paint on the cowl and windshield trim. Mine came out at 7 pounds.Great kit.
