As long as I don't have the cowling, I find that I only have to wipe off a one foot section of the top wing that way.
(looks pretty cool taxiing back to the gate too)

Good news!
The MAS 13/8 prop fits the 2" spinner too!
Here's a short vid showing how much more power it has over the 13/6.
Sounds better too.
Rocco is making better landings as well, tho naturally, the good ones happened when I wasn't filming.
On his Smith, the elevator/stab is finished and he's started on the rudder/stab.

Nice landings

I love touch-n-goes with mine. It's not bothered by wind all that much, and the glide slope is very responsive to throttle. My favorite thing is to do upwind / downwind alternating touch-n-goes, with a hammerhead at the top of each. Greaser after greaser...

Yeah buddy!
That Magnum is good for that sort of thing.
It putt putts down final and picks up instantly when you shove the stick forward.
My favorite used to be to take off, climb vertically, snap into a spin and recover just in time to glide to land then repeat.
but my old geezer vision makes me too nervous to try it now.
A recovery in the wrong direction could be exciting and expensive.

Looks really good! I remember when mine was "in the bones", lol

And unless your son has a son of his own, I got no sympathy for him

HH told me (thru the forums) to go ahead and send the engine in under warranty even though I had replaced the pushrods/tubes and cam housing after a tree strike.
I did and today I got the engine back repaired for no charge!
Kudos to HH for their warranty flexibility.
They replaced the piston, said the conrod and wrist pin were ok.
They test ran with a 13/6 prop and obtained 9k rpm with 1.7k idle.

So the FG11 is back on track.
I'd still like to know if it can be converted to glow by switching carbs with the .62.
Anybody know?

Today, #1 son learned that you don't glue the TE to the shelves on the ribs.

He's going kind of slow.
When not working, he's got a lot of other stuff taking up his spare time.
(wife not included.)
Seriously, we've had a good run of good flying weather coinciding with his off days and we've been flying the heck out of everything we've got.
(Weeeeeee!)
I'll keep ya posted when he makes up for lost time.
He *did* get the tips on....

I just finished reading this whole thread, took me a month and a half. Lots of good info here. I have a smith waiting but it's waiting in a lengthy line.

Some parts of the build can be frustrating and it's best to take your time. I spent almost a year on mine.

I will post pics as I go. I've only built one kit so far so it will take a while once I get started.

Looking forward to it!
If it eases your mind any, Sig kits go together easier than most.
If you just follow the instructions and check off each step with a pencil, you'll find it easier than you think.
I believe the Smith is about the easiest bipe kit on the market. (not counting arfs).
For some crazy reason I've been building the Precedent Stampe and I think it's one of the most difficult bipe kits.
There is a build thread of it at RC Groups.

Hi guy!
If you're talking about the receiver, they replaced it no charge and the new one has been doing fine.
If you're talking about the FG11, they replaced the piston free and sent it back.
I haven't run it yet, but the the receipt said the tech had it running fine. (look at post 1210 for details)
It's still in the box because the Magnum .91 is really doing a good job hauling the old smith around (video at post 1203) and purring like a kitten no matter what sort of aerial violence Rock can wreak upon it.

Maybe someday I'll get it back out, or maybe trade for a nitro version..... can't decide just yet.

That's good to hear, the first was a lazer cut kit short kit, the directions & plans left a little to be desired (could have been all me) and it was one that wasn't popular with tons of build threads. It was a simple flier from realflight g2 from akmodels. Still haven't finished it but it is all framed up. Boy did I do alot of guessing on that one.

I just looked at the building manual of the simple flyer.... Not what I would call a simple flyer. But I must say that the instructions with pics were pretty good compared to a lot of kits.
Of course it is a pretty complex airframe for your first kit. I had to jump from instructions to the pic three or four times on that wing center section before I got what they were saying.
But at least I can say the Smith is no worse. The hard part is figuring out where the build is going so you'll do things the right way to make the next step easy. (always study ahead three or four steps before gluing anything) So even now, I do a bit of head scratching during most builds. Not that I don't know what to do, but trying to figure the best way to do it.
So if you have any trouble, you can always ask here.

Good to hear about your engine. All of my experiences with HH warranty service have been good ones. We could work out some sort of trade for my SMP for the FG 11 if you were interested. Lawrenceville is not too far from me so getting together would not be difficult. My aunt actually lives in Winder.

I know I should have started with more of a beginner based kit, but couldn't find one I was interested. I have great building and repair skills in general. Like you said, I got lost a little here and there. Did some improvising and I believe it went together mostly right. It is solid but still lite. I'm glad you didn't say the simple flier look simple. I will get to smith some time after the first of the year I hope. Installing laminate and ceramic floors through out the house and we all know if mamma ain't happy, no ones happy.
