Take a look at [link]http://www.piperj3gear.com/[/link]. I'm going to try this gear on a 1/5 scale Cub. He ( William Wallace) makes 1/6 through 1/3 size gear. Nice to deal with too.
Best regards,
Bill

The Wallace Gear look very nice but from what I have heard they are not as strong as the Robart.

I found the site. I believe if I buy any it will be robart. I wonder if they can wear out? Like within 100 flights? Or? I hate to spend that kind of cash on landing gear and it just wear out fast. Can I put them on later if I decide to? After I have it finished and flew it a while.

I have around 40 landings on my Cub and there seems to be virtually no wear. I have heard the wallace gear get a bit sloppy after repeated landings. The metal on the Robart gear is of good quality and appears to have been hardened. I did a little grinding on my gear to make the edges a little cleaner for covering and the metal was very hard. The only thing that will wear out is the O-Rings and you can pick them up at the hardware store, Cumban makes a great set of Bungee covers to fit the gear as well.
Later!!!

I have the Robart gear on my 1/4 scale Supercub- it has worked great. The only issue after about 4 years of use is tightening up a few loose bolts. Totally worth the cost.

Regards,

Dave

As I have a set of each, I can attest that the Robart IS beefier than the Wallace gear. That said, the Wallace gear is more than plenty to handle anything you can dish out on landing that won't otherwise trash your plane. I have the Wallace gear on a 1/5 scale Cub, and the only thing that's ever happened in 4 years is bending the front hard mounts from bottoming the gear (not enough rubber bands) and hitting the "V" strut on the runway. Totally my bad, and it only took ten minutes to fix. This was in the first month I had them, no damage since. My guess is that the Robart would do the same thing, or maybe even tear out the mount instead of bend it. I see the difference between the two like this: you have a '72 Volkswagen with stock suspension (wire gear). You put polypropylene bushings and high performance shocks, with stiffer trailing arms on it (Wallace), or you go all out and put a full Baja off road suspension package on it (Robart), but you never have the intention of taking it off the pavement. Sure, it's heavier duty, but what's the point?

As far as scale appearance goes, at least in 1/5 scale, the Wallace looks better, IMO. I don't have a set of 1/4 scale Wallace to compare to 1/4 Robart, but the gear mounts (the part that bolts to the fuse) are the same for the 1/5 and 1/4 Robart, which makes them too large for the 1/5 scale plane.

For the price difference ($25-$40), and looks, the Wallace gear is good enough for me.
