Default 4*60 Saito 125

Has anyone put a Saito 125 in a Four star 60? I am building one from plans and plan to glass the wings and possibly the fuse as well, so there will be extra weight. I want to by a motor that will be suitable for a warbird that I will build in the future. You know, the kill two birds with one motor thing...

Be sure to check the currently issue of the Fly Rc magazine, they are testing the Saito 1.25 on the 4 star .60 size.

Yeah, I remember seeing that but I don't recall what it said (it's in my truck at work). From what I remember it was focused on the engine.

Crawler,
I have been flying a Venture 60 (much like a 4* 60) with a Saito 100. It yanks that plane around like nobodys bussiness. Even with 3 deg. right engine thrust, you need more than normal right rudder on take off's and anytime you accellerate into a loop or climb, is definatly alot of power for that plane. I think even with the weight of glassing and alot of expo on the throttle you'll want to get that 125 into the warbird so you can get a smaller motor for the 4*.
You might want to glass both sides of the firewall to keep it in the plane, Have fun.

Yeah, it's starting to sound like I will be needing to buy an additional motor when I move into warbirds.[&o] Oh well, maybe I'll start with a 60 size plane.

Why dont you enlarge the plans and build a 4* 120?

With an engine that large in a 60 size, would it be able to land without killing the engine? Would it not move on the runway with the engine at idle? I love doing touch and go's with my 4* and would hate to give that up if there was always too much thrust to land. Maybe a lower pitch prop would be the answer.
Have fun, MikeB

I've got a friend who broke his 1.25 in on his 4*60 and it was really a blast. It ended up in a Venus II but he almost put it back in the 4* it was so much fun. I would say though that it's a bit more power than needed in a 4*60. I have an OS 120 in my 4*120 right now and I think that could be flown on a 91 4 stroke just fine even at 12 lbs. I almost want to try it for kicks since I have 2 91s sitting in boxes right now.

I maidened one of my four stars today. I have a 60 and a 120. This 60 has the .91 on it and has great power. Not unlimited vertical but pulls it straight up really nice. The 120 will have a Brillelli 26cc on it.
