Default Sperry Messenger

I am so excited : a great freind has given me a Ikonwest Sperry Messenger kit that appears to be (1989) or so. First time I opened it, I spent about 30 min. and decided it mght be over my head. (7th build) I have since spent a couple hours studing the plans and instructions together with wood placed out. So lets just do it with a better attitude. I am planning on an OS 91 4s power plant and coverite, it'll be my first paint job.

The kit actually seems great after I came to understand it.

I'd really appreciate any pic's of this plane and insight to it's flight characteristics.

I'll keep you "POSTED" on progress.

Suggestion - Use SolarTex instead of Coverite.

Coverite is heavier than SolarTex AND with Coverite you will need to put Balsarite on the frame AND any overlap seams.

SolarTex has excellent adhesive, so the Balsarite is not needed. http://www.balsausa.com/coverings/?shopperid=

Thanks Campy,

Looks like solarte is already colored? I was wanting to paint a dark brown (automotive paint) to match Ikonwests original picture color. They actually suggest super coverite in the plan book, for a fabric cover.

Thanks,

You can use the natural Solartex and paint that.

Framed up the elevator/stabalizer, rudder/fin and have the fuse framed out with the firewall installed. defiantly a builders kit, but very enjoyable. Wood quality and fit excellent. Will have some pic's next time.

I've seen this kit fly. It's very scale-looking in the air, but doesn't seem to exhibit any bad habits to speak of. If you do a decent job of building and covering this kit, you will enjoy flying it for a long time to come.
