Default Bud Nosen .46 Citabria

My local hobby shop has a vintage Nosen .46 sized Decathalon/Citabria for sale: $125.

I opened the box and was greeted with yellowed plans, mimeographed construction instructions and a WHOLE lotta wood.

Anyone there build this kit once upon a time and can gve some feedback?

$125 sounds steep for a retro-tech kit that's all die-crunched and stick stock.

What's the prognosis?

Do a search on E-Bay and see how much those old Nosen kits go for. $ 125 might sound high but I think the all go for that much and more. That and the fact that some sellers charge an arm and a leg for shipping makes that kit a pretty good buy. If you dont' want it you can send it to me.

I've built one, and it's certainly NOT worth $125. It's a builder's kit with lots of stringers. The plans are fair and the instructions are kinda helpful. Better use them though, it's the only chance you have of getting it even close to right. Some sequences and methods are questionable. Built per plans, the windshield doesn't fit very well. Mine did NOT include an engine cowl. You'll have to scratch that yourself. If I remember correctly, there wasn't much hardware, either. The sellers asking $125 are looking for the collector's value, but it's not worth that to build and fly. Save yourself some grief and get a much better kit of this cute little plane, the GP version.

I just got one that is almost built in a bunch of stuff I got from a local guy who is retiring from the hobby. The plans in it were yellow blue prints, and the instructions were as you described. I haven't really looked at the box of stuff and plans very close. I'm not sure I'll ever finsih it. Like Dr 1 said, it is a builders kit.

Looks like the guy did a decent job on it. I'll add it does build VERY light, and it's kinda small for a .40-46 two stroke engine. A .46 four stroke would probably fly it.
