Sig 4 * 40 Build
I'm in the middle of a 4 Star 40 build and ran across a slight problem I'm not sure how to handle. The stabilizer is supposed to have a small flat spot on the leading edge
in the middle, where it butts up against F6. Before I made the flat spot, I noticed that the fuselage is sticking out past the stab on the T.E about a 1/4". When I put on the "fin"
it seems to meet up with the stab better than the fuselage. Should I just sand down the fuselage to meet the stab? This is my first build in a long time, so I'd appreciate
your help. Thanks!

I had the same problem and I just butt joined a small strip of balsa (about a 1/4 in) to the T.E. stabilizer to match up with the fuse.
They might have cut it that way for the rudder to clear the wire that joins the elevator halves but it's not clear in the plans or the instructions. I just made it flush and made a cut out in the rudder.

The plans call for a cut-out in the rudder to clear the wire, so I did that. I think I'll have to cut back the fuselage to make it all fit properly.
Thanks for the help.

I recommend adding a one-eighth inch hardwood spacer between F6 and the horiz fin leading edge rather than sanding the aft fuselage as the completed airplane (glow powered) will be slightly nose heavy when finished.

anotherhobby,
So what did you end up doing to fix this? I am at that stage in my 4 Star 40 build (first kit build for me) and have the same dilemma. What did you do and how did it end up?
I also figured I would have to sand the fuselage down to meet the stab.
Thanks,
DaveCFI

RE: Sig 4 * 40 Build
I sanded down the fuselage. I used some filler to make the tail end thicker since there is a hinge that goes there for the rudder. I also had to make a new plywood piece for the langing gear mount. It wasn't big enough to fit properly, and it wasn't cut square. Otherwise, it was a great kit to build. I'm not quite finished with it, but I don't have much left.
