I ran a Magnum .70 4-stroke in mine and it seemed just about right. I also like the OS FL-70 4-stroke. I had one in my Hangar-9 Twist. Once it was broken in, it started easy and idled perfect evry time. Of course Saito rocker arm covers would sure look good sticking out of the side of a Cub cowling.

Mine was flown on a Saito .45 and it flew fine. Slow, on the wing, but flew fine. I am going to re-engine mine with a larger Saito after I restore it.

Yet, it will remain a sweet, gentile floater.

Can't pass this up.......Minn, what difference does the plane's religious affiliation have on its flight characteristics?[sm=confused.gif]

I once saw a cub powered with one of these

the sound made it a perfect match.

That Saito FA - 60 would be cool, and I did think about it. The price tag of 550.00 might be the problem.

I read somewhere that the Saito 60 twin was indeed built just for the Goldberg Anniversary Cub.

It's a good idea to cover from the bottom to the top, allowing the upper pieces to overlap the lower pieces. . This helps to keep fuel from getting in the seams.

MP3, I see you opted for the military scheme, are you going to keep it all olive drab , any trim plans? I still don’t know leaning towards cub yellow, but I know I will be using fabric, if the plane ever get here. I am still waiting. Start looking for an engine. If I could find a good used Saito 60 twin thats the choice.

Yes my J-3 will be all olive, when I started the model I asked to my partner (my son) for the color and wind span, our choise was this model, our plane doesn't has any great expectative more than a funny plane.
The fuse is almost ready, the lines black and white are a little twisted but I leave it.

I'm building the GP J3 Cub and last night I glued the hinges into the stab using the "straw" method. It's suggested on page 39 of my manual and it works great!!!!!!

From the GP Instructions......"A good way of doing this is to scoop up some epoxy with a plastic soda straw, then pinch the end of the straw, insert it into the slot, and squeeze the straw to force glue into the slot. We recommend 30-minute epoxy for this process. After pushing in the hinges/tail wheel bearing, wipe away all excess glue with a tissue dampened with rubbing alcohol.".....

Thanks for the tip. Sounds like a great idea. I will give it a shot next time I need to install hinges.

I started to cover the wind.
In the whole airplane I used 14 feets of Monokote olive, 2 feets Monokote white and 1 feet Monokote black.

I got this kit for X-Mas. and have a Supertirge GS40 and a Bisson Pitts muffler that I have allready broke in on the runup stand. I have it all completed but the wing. If I go with the clipped wing, will the 40 be enough for it ?

Try to do these mod's to it for scale sake. I changed mine from a J-3 to a Super Cub. The entire Magnum .91 4-stroke is inside the cowling. I see so many J-3's that I wanted a little flair and changed it over. I have a build thread on this Forum "Building a Great Planes 60 size Cub"

Good luck with your build,

Gibbs

Nice work Gibbs, I may do those mods to my GreatPlanes J3 .20. Crashed one to many times, needs a rebuild, Thanks much for your info.
Does anyone have a 40 sized engine in the clipped wing, and if so is it enough power?

The kit has finally arrived, I bought it online here ( rc universe), total price was 92.00 dollars, includes shipping UPS from California, not bad. Probably won’t get into it tonight ( Jan. 17 ), most likely tomorrow after work. I have decided to clip the wing. And go with cub yellow. I also have a line on a new Saito FA-60T, if we can work on the price. MP3 are you finished with the covering ?

Well I couldn’t keep my hands off it, opened and started to label. Did anyone building this kit use the hinges supplied, I don’t know about these….. I never use the supplied push rods. These hinges look like they won’t last.

I`ve used this type of hinge on several planes. When you glue them in do not reapply CA as it will just pool, and make sure your hinge slots are`nt to wide where the hinge fits sloppy. The wicking of the thin CA actually makes the balsa around the hinge area stronger. I`ve done a few cartwheels and such with my other planes and have`nt had one fail yet.
I compared them to Sig and GreatPlane hinges I have in my tool box and they looka lot like the GreatPlane hinges in about everyway..
What kind of hindes did you have in mind?
I`m just finishing my fuselage and have`nt decide if I`m going to clip the wing or not.
Good luck with your build

Moondoggie, the GS 40 will work with either wing, but in either case, you may find you want more power anyway.

Thanks MinnFlyer. I just got into this hobbie 4 months ago, and my hanger is up to five. LOL! And I have a GP Taylor Craft in at the LHS.
I am going to take your advise and clip the wing, thanks for all the good info on the difference between the two.
Went with the GS-40 because of tight budget 79 bucks for it and the Bisson Pitts muffler. Broke it in on the engine stand with a 10x6 prop, then tried a 11x5 & 11x6, pulls strong with the larger props and screams with the 10x6. And with the muffler, it`s not to loud or annoying, the bigger chamber helps I think and fits inside the cowl. I have an Evo .46, O.S LA 25 and 2 GS-40s. The Tigers are a little tricky to tune, but once dialed in seem to run nicer than my others. Air time will tell I guess?
Thanks again for helping a Newbie out.
