Default Control horns; boooo!

I'm building a Laser 3D and the control horns are going to limit my throw. I've got Robart hinge points installed so I've got "bind free" 180 degree travel and the elevator servo horn is going to limit the throw of the rudder and vice versa. Is there a standard technique to remedy this problem that I don't know about? There's not really much I can do in terms of moving the rudder control horn further up or down. Any suggestions?

turn it around so the slope faces the front? this does effect the throw because the connection is no longer over the hinge line, but using a star servo horn you can use the same location off centre and sort that out, even easier if using pull pull.
Just an idea...

Can't do it with a push rod and horn system. That's what "Pull-pull" is all about. With cable operation you can get about 80-85 degrees deflection in each direction, but more than 45 degrees or so is wasted because the rudder will stall. Except in hover. There it's useful.

Hope this helps.

Let's see, what does it take
. For the rudder to become a brake?

Well, the rudder is pull pull. but it's the horn that's interfering with the throw, not the actual linkage. Does this change anything in terms of your advice?

Thanks!

Reid:

Changes nothing. Even in hovering and "3D" more than 60 degrees deflection is pretty much useless, and if you go full throttle at 60 degrees rudder you might have unpleasant results.

Try it, might be fun. But start high.

Make like a top, centered on the cockpit.
. Rudder hard over, grab the throttle, nail it.

I know that, but what I'm saying is that the rudder control horn is preventing the elevator from achieving more than say 35 or 40 degrees. This is what I'm seeking a solution too.

Thanks!!

If the elevator is hitting the horn you need to notch the elevator to miss the horn..

Sorry Reid;

I thought you weren't getting the rudder throw.

If the elevator is hitting the rudder horn you either live with the limit, move the rudder horn, however difficult that may be, or do as v-snap said and notch it. But if the elevator is hittiing the rudder horn with the rudder centered, it will have even less free movement when the rudder is deflected.

If this is the case I'd think someone's engineering was faulty, or maybe the plan's specified location was not used.

However it happened, somebody screwed up. Better fix it before trying to fly the plane.

Take it off, soar beautifully into the wind.
. Now make your turn.. GUST LOCKS STILL ON! Stack it in again.

Well, I've only trial fitted the horns. The airplane isn't even fully covered yet, so we've got awhile. I'm going to enlarge the rudder and possibly notch the elevator. I hate to do it, but I want this to be crazy. Thanks for your help guys!

Reid
