RE: Sig Tri Star Build
Craig-rcu,
Thanks. Only got the 2nd flight in on Sunday before the wind picked up over 10mph with gusts. Practiced the basics with no problem. Like I said the landings will need work. I must still thinking "Sport flier" and not coming in shallow enough and bleeding off enough speed. I touchdown on the mains and she porpoises a couple of times.

You can still get the instruction manual directly from SIG - downloadable pdf, free. Go to http://sigmfg.com/cgi-bin/dpsmart.ex...osF.html?E+Sig, and you'll see a red menu line near the top of the page. Toward the right is one labeled SIG Instruction Manuals. Down toward the bottom is Discontinued Kits - click on that. SIGRC-70 Tristar is toward the bottom. Just download and go.
By the way, there are 2 lines available for download - set-up specs and the instruction manual itself.

Dave,
Thanks for your service ... seems at the time we really weren't appreciated that much, so I never miss a chance to say that, especially to the guys that I see just returning.
I actually have a TriStar almost finished ... electric ... but I was interested in another kit. If I can't find one then I'll have to do it the hard way ... sometimes the build actually comes out better that way.

Hey Nick! I thank you for your thoughts - it truly was my personal privilege to serve. Yeah, it wasn't always easy back then - it sometimes seemed we were more hated by our own people in the US than by our enemies overseas. Strange times.
I've had a fascination of the Tri-Star ever since I saw one fly, back in the 1990's, but I've never actually gone and looked for a kit. Definitely, "my bad". She's a fascinating plane.
"...interested in another kit" - really? Which one?

I'm interested in a TriStar ... or a Falcon 56.
Yup, when I came back it was suggested that we remove our flight suits ... My suggestion was "Go ---- Yourself" ... I think that we might have been a little insensitive to their feelings. I thought that they were a little insensitive to ours. I make it a point to thank guys of our generation since we didn't hear it much then. I always thank the new guys when I see them ... especially in airports ... I really don't want them to feel as unappreciated as we did.

slevin1,
Bought the Kit ... I'm going electric. I'll be using this motor :
http://www.headsuphobby.com/Firepowe...otor-C-311.htm
1800/ 2200 3 cell lipo and a 50amp ESC ... I like building light and using 2 servos for the ailerons and one for the elevator. I'm going to also use a separate servo for the nose wheel steering. I'm planning on mounting the battery forward of the wing in the fuselage where the servos are on the plans and moving the elevator servo and nose wheel servo as far forward as possible. I hate adding weight to get a C/G ... so I think the battery forward will allow me some wiggle room. Anybody have any ideas on 3 bladed props? (for better ground clearance on rotation)

Yes. Look towards master airscrew and the prop for the Park Zone Icon A5 from Horizon Hobby. Make sure to get the prop adapter for the Icon A5 prop. Make sure to use larger wheels than what's shown on the plans because the smaller wheels won't work on grass. Dubro sells park flyer wheels. They have a white rim and look almost like old west wagon wheels. Also DO NOT use the nose gear that comes with the kit. It easily collapses and has to frequently be bent back into position. Dubro sells park flyer/1/2A nose gear. Follow the build thread here as the gentleman built his as an electric.
One more thing: Use magnets to hold the hatch. I would recommend Magcraft as they sell magnets of all sizes.
I still have my Tri Star so please feel free to ask me any questions you may have.
