Herr Pitts cowl
Help! I have built a Herr Pitts specil, but I am having problems trying to put the three piece cowl together. I ruined the original, and after waiting 6 mos. to get a replacement, don't want to mess it up as well. Does anyone know of a f/g version? Does anyone have any suggestions?

The cowl Herr gives you is really light, and goes together well if you are careful.
Cut some extra strips about 1/4" wide from the plastic sheet, hold them in place with clips, clothespins work great, and make a flange around the inside of the front of the cowl. Use slow ca, fast ca will make the plastic crack.
Fasten the other two pieces together at the top, also using a backing strip. then tape everything together and test fit it. Once you get a good fit around the front you can glue most of it together.
Heres mine

I have made several cowls by sanding a plug out of styrofoam about 1/4" longer than what I needed, covering with 2 layers light cloth w/ thinned epoxy, let dry a few days then melt out foam w/ dope thinner. made one for a 1/2 a cap, and an old out of production beercat bipe. used handi- wipes for beercat and a few others! it works well.
