150flyer,
You should keep up with the times. I have one. IT IS NOT THE .40 SIZE "KIT" LIKE THIS THREAD IS TALKING ABOUT. THIS THREAD BELONGS IN THE KIT BUILDING SECTION. THERE IS ALREADY A THREAD ABOUT THE ARF 60-90 PLANE. THE TWO ARE TWO TOTALY DIFFERENT ANIMALS.
Here is the link.

drdoom, With a .61 you are'nt going to have any shortage in power! I fly mine with a .40LA, alittle anemic but it flies. Great flying sport plane. I would defanitly build it with the flaps, it is difficult to slow down with out them, all it whants to do is FLY! And they can REALLY shorten up your takeoff.
I have well over 300 flights on mine and I have never had any problums other than the engine. You should have plenty of fun with this plane!

RE: .40 size GP RV-4
Thanks Guys: I have the fuse ready to cover and the rudder and stab are done.
Motor,Tank, and all servos are in the fuse already. I thought about Full length Flapperons, and Elevons.

I would be carefull about getting to "spiffy" on the controlls with this plane. It is a veary straight forward flyer, and I'm not sure about the aerodynamics of this plane. With the flaps deployed the elevator gets a little soft, nothing drastic, but with full length flaps it might make it ineffective all togeather.
This plane is veary fun to fly and is pretty aerobatic for what it is. It really does fly like it's full scale counterpart, and I think you would be happy with it with traditional controlls!
hope this helps!

RE: .40 size GP RV-4
I left the C.G alone, But I did give alot more throw in the tail. The Recomended throw just is'nt enough in the rudder and elevator. It flies well it just does'nt like to do stall manuvers such as Snaps and spins or knife edge.
I gave the Elevator 3/4" more throw than in the plans and gave the rudder 1" more, this seemed to help. The nose of mine still falls out of a knife edge but I am pretty certain that it's do to the small engine. I don't think you have this problum if you give it a little more throw.
I did set the ailerons at the recomended range. I have a two postion flap switch so I set the first position just a little more than the recomended low rate and then set position 2 a the high rate. You don't need more than the low rate position, more flap causes the Eletator to lose efectivness on final, it does'nt stall in the tail, but you run out of elevator in the Flair.
One more trick I learned, is to bend your landing gear a little bit more, This will stand the plane at a higher angle of attack and will help make landing it easier![8D]

RE: .40 size GP RV-4
Great. Is the Gear strong enough for this model? I know in years past, we would change everything to a Much stronger HALCO Gear.
I got the fuse, rudder, stab, all Monocoted . still working on the wing.

RE: .40 size GP RV-4
Yep the gear is plenty strong enough, it just sits a little flat wich extends your takeoff run and makes it kinda tricky to get it in a good flair to get a nice touchdown. Bending the gear fixed it for me.
I fly off Black Top and this plane, after a little tweaking, has spoiled me. just get the speed right and a god flair and she'll settle in on all three as smooth as silk 9 outta 10 times.

RE: .40 size GP RV-4
I am working on my RV-4 converted to an RV-4A (i know the A only came in RV-6, 7, 8 and 9). Please update on how it handled on her maiden flight! I am getting ready to start installing radio/engine and covering pretty soon.
Good Luck on yours!

The Maiden of mine was kinda hairy, I had it severly out out of trim, but after a few flights and making some tweaks in between she really exelled. It will move right along to, and do plenty of aerobatics, if you guys are lookin for a good sport plane that is just fun to fly ya got the right one!
