Studs for tail mount - Supplier is???
Hello. I'm wanting to mount the tail on my P-51 (H9 ARF) with studs permanently attached to the vert stab, going through prefab holes (I will make) in the h-stab, through the bottom of the fuse, and tighten the nuts up there.
Am I going to have to make my own studs or are there any suppliers already making them?
Also, is this a good idea? (the thought of PERMANENTLY glueing the tail on does not appeal to me)
I also would rather bolt the two wing halves together, but haven't looked at the feasability of that yet.
Thanks in advance.............Dave

Holeshot:
As you know, it's been done. I know of no commercial mountings of that sort, you'll have to make your own.
But I don't think it's a good idea, and don't know
why you would want to on a plane that size.
When the stab span gets to two feet or so I can understand removing it for transport, by why the vertical?
The only place I've had a demountable vetical was on an RCM Trainer 40, and that was just so they could advertise "No Gluing."
View their manual here:

Scroll to page seven, you can see the tang on the vertical fin and the stud.
You will note they do not rely on the stud for lateral strength; there is a hardwood tongue extending through the horizontal stab, to a hard point on the bottom of the fuselage.
Hope this helps, if you have any further questions please post, I (and others, maybe) will respond.
The rudder comes off, that's all right,
. So long as it's not in flight.
Bill.
