GotSky and Morwan ( or anyone else that may have this kit ):

If you have time, can you post a picture of how you set up the servos and pushrods? Also, can you post a picture of the pushrods as they exit the fuselage and connect to the elevator & rudder? I'm a little confused about how I want to proceed.

Thanks.

One wing.

Framed the right wing last night. Pretty simple, but I need to practice controlling my CA. I seem to use way too much and it ends up all over the place.

I'll be attempting to sheet the entire wing in order to use the Flite-Metal covering. I'm not exactly sure how to do this, so I'm going to start a new thread and try to get some suggestions.

Foosball
I can put up some pictures when we get back home from the float fly this weekend. It would be Monday or Tuesday however.
Take care

Epoxied the wings together last night. Look pretty good, but the dihedral is slight more than the recommended 1 inch. I don't think it will be an issue.

Clamps, clamps, clamps.

I've nearly completed sheeting the wing. It is by no means perfect, but once I sand it to shape, I think it should be ok. I'm worried about the additional weight, especially since I'm only using a .15 sized motor. With the landing gear and wheels installed, I can finally see how she may look.

Finally finished sheeting the wing. Turned out better than I thought it would, however, the right side is heavier than the left. Not sure what happened. But since the wing sheeting went well, I think I'm going to sheet the tail and elevator.

Don´t worry about the difference weigth of the wings. You can check the total weight with the fuse attached.

Well, I decided to sheet the horizontal and vertical stab since the wing sheeting turned out ok. Now I need to drill the holes to mount the wing and piece her together.

Now I can kind of see why there are so many "nearly" finished planes for sell at swap meets. I was laid-off and haven't had time to finish my Airacobra. But I'm getting my shop organized again and have decide to complete her. -- Funny, my last post was the day I was laid off.

I have a question though....

What's the best way to line up the exit holes for the elevator and rudder push rods? I built a Venture 60 and my holes were waaaay off resulting in holes 10x larger than they should be.

How can get these holes to be as close as possible to the correct location before drilling?

Well, finally finished her.

I used Flite Metal http://www.scaleaero.com/flitemetal.htm to cover the plane. It required a lot of time, but I think it turned out ok.

Did you glass it before putting on the flight metal? The job you did looks fantastic!

Yes, I did fly it. I had a thunder tiger .15 in her at first. Again, I mounted the firewall upside down, so the engine was upside down. It constantly locked because the fuel didn't drain properly, but I was finally able to get the engine going. I had a feeling she would be underpowered and she was. My take off rolls were very slow. The three blade prop I had on the engine didn't help, but I wanted as much of a scale look as possible.

I switched props several times and finally had a prop that seemed to give me enough of a take-off to get off the ground. She left the ground and I pitched up too much and she stalled about 8 feet off the ground. Not too much damage.

So I went back to the shop and put on an OS .25 LA I salvaged from a another plane. The mount was awful, but good enough to give her another try. Plenty of power this time and she flew nicely. After I landed, the mounting screws were shot and only two were still holding the engine to the mount.

Now I need to completely redo the engine mount. But she flew.

No, I didn't not put anything between the wood and the flite-metal. The instructions call for the entire plane to be glazed first to seal all the pores, but I thought that would add too much weight for such a small plane.

I just found this site today, and noted your post of 10/18/2007 about building the Global Quality Kits P-39 Airacobra. I bought the same kit some years ago while I was in the Navy, but never made the time to assemble it. However, the plans for the model got lost in moving around the world more than once. Would you possibly still have those plans, and if you do would you consider selling me a full size copy of them? If you don't have the plans, please tell me where you got the model you put together and its price. I have since retired and can now pick up my hobby and enjoy flying again. thanks for your help.

No. Did not save the plans. Still have the plane. Need to replace the fire wall, but don't have the energy to do it right now. Would consider selling the plane if you are interested.

I know this is an older thread... but I have this Global P39 kit sitting around.. I have not really inspected the thing in a long time..
rbarchar, if you still need a set of plans or the whole kit even, let me know. I dont know what shipping would be for the thing, but I could figure it out if you really want.
I am building the TopFlight gold edition P-39 right now, might do a build thread for it too.
