Sig Giant Four-Star 120
Hi all,
I was considering building a Sig Four Star 1.20 over the winter months and need some advice. I learned on a Nexstar and have progressed to a Goldberg Tiger II. I would like to get into giant scale planes they peek my interest more. My question is will I be able to handle the big bird after my Tiger II? I have been told by my instructor that larger planes are easier to fly and that a 4 star is the same type of second trainer so no challenges. I would like to have anyone’s 2 cents on the subject and give me build advice for the 1.20. I am also planning on powering it with a Magnum 1.20 2 stroke. Is this a good fit for someone who likes to fly aerobatics and slower?
Thanks
Joey V.

I'm about to build (after I finish my Elder40) a Sig Spacewalker II and I'll mount my Saito 125 four stroke. With that size engine available you might want to look into the Spacewalker before deciding. It will introduce you to large scale planes (1/4 scale) and still leave you with a fairly docile plane that can also do aerobatics (or so I'm told).

I agree with your instructor. My Fourstar .60 is a very docile plane--the 1.20 should only be better. I can't advise you on the Magnum 1.20--it would be more than enough for me.

This airplane is great. They will do anything you ask them to do . I had one with an asp 1.08 that I flew for many years. I sold it last year. Wish I wouldn't have done it. Easy to build, and easy to fly. You can relax flying this gentle giant.

I have had a four star 40, I have a four star 60 and I to plan on building the 120 this winter. I would think You would want more than a 120 on the front. My 60 has a st 90 on it and it will do anything You want to do. I added 1/2" to the rubber on the 60 and move the canopy forward 1 1/2 ".

RE: Sig Giant Four-Star 120
Someday, I would like to build a 4*120 for my Homelite 33cc conversion. I built the 4*40 as my first kit build and second airplane years ago. I remember that it was just as easy going as my trainer at the time and that aileron rolls were just a bit quicker-that was really the only difference I could tell. I had an OS .48 4strk and it made the perfect touch and go machine. One thing I do remember though is that it did have an exact landing speed-any faster or slower and it would have a tendency to bounce badly. A guy at my club had the 120 which flew and looked really nice in the air and gave me the motivation to finish mine. I am curious to know what you decide in terms of power etc. Good luck!!

People have asked me what I'm going to move up to next when they see my 40 and 60 powered planes. Warbirds, giant 3D planes? Then I show them my little .049 and .010 powered projects.
You should enjoy your big 4 Star.

Hi Joey. The Four Star 120 is probably a good choice for getting into a larger plane. I am just working on mine now doing the covering on the wing. Like others have said a small gasser is a good choice for these. Mine is a G23.

You guys might want to check out my build thread on the 4*120. Many of your questions can be answered in that thread.

RE: Sig Giant Four-Star 120
I am flying my second 4-star 120, with an OS 1.08 (no longer manufactured). It is not difficult to fly. Shortening the wing by one rib bay each side reduces the tendency to float on landing. I would not be afraid of it.

John, do you still have you Sig 4-star 1.20? I know 2 guys that may build one. Is there any mods you have learned since you started flying this nice plane? Take Care, Capt,n john
