Well the reason I was asking....
Ultra Stick is ARF...
I've already had to epoxy 1/32 ply to one side and both top and bottom of wood joiner for a good fit...as it was, it was a lousey fit and never would have gotten enough epoxy in the joint for a good bond...but don't know about how far out the box in the wings are out...
Poly glue would expand and fill it all, but don't know how strong it would be in this particular joint...
Tooooo many $$$$$$'s invested in this one....

This is exactly why you should not use poly glue to join the wings.

You might find some strange curves on the top and bottom of the wings, where it exapnded and blew the top or bottom of the joiner box out.

Worse would be its blowing one side of the box, and your not seeing it until you picked up the pieces at the flying field. After the wing tips met each other in flight, of course.

Just use 30 minute epoxy. Figure how much you think you need for one side, and double it. When you stick the joiner in, be sure there is epoxy oozing out, after the joiner is in place clean the excess epoxy... You know all that.

Use epoxy. Simple. Leave it at that.

Bill.

I think that sounds like good advice....never thought about that part...(blowing out the spars or the sides of the box...)
We'll go that route and let it go at that.....

Thanks to all that gave advice...

If you have a huge area to fill and are concerned about using too much epoxy (due to weight) you could always use some micro-balloons to take up some space with less weight.

Do not use Micro -balloons,they are a to be used as a lite weight filler only, they will weaken the join big time, milled fibre is used for strength if filling a gap with epoxy.

Default Ultra stik

Howdy,

Hanger 9 had some problems with the wings of the ultra stik 60 being crushed in shipping. Make sure that that's not the problem. Look & listen for bits of balsa loose in the wing. I would call Hanger 9 & see about another set of wings.

ps. If at all possible set up the quad flap option on the plane. It is well worth it.

Joe
