Hi all - recently picked up the TF Stinson Reliant kit and was wondering if anyone has any fiberglass cowling parts for that they are interested in selling. Just read this entire post and am now ready to start the build. Thanks

Well I got the engine a DLE 35 RE looked it over an proceeded to mount it using their excellent design standoffs and an added 1 1/2" aircraft grade plywood spacer. I'm looking forward to firing this engine up;the only DOWN SIDE is it was not manufactured in the U.S.A. Here are some pictures.
Nice is that engine large enough, need a engine for mine and not sure what to get tks frank

Very nice job both on the build, paint and logo. I am up to the point of mounting the wings onto the fuse. There are a lot of sticks that go into this build!!!

I an curious as well as to what type of paint you used. I am between latex (my plane is being built all electric) or auto enamel. Thanks

Rustoleum and Ace Harware paints are good choices for electric models. Auto paint is always a good choice, too.

Nice work on your Stinson, Richard.

Does anyone have a cock pit kit for this plane that they would be willing to sell? Since it is discontinued they don't have them you can only order individual parts! As much work as I am putting into this thing it would be a shame not to go that extra little bit.

Hi
is it possible to have the link for the pdf mounting notice?
thank you
another point is the elevator servos. I replaced the 2 big servos in the fuselage by two smaller (Eflite MG8) located directly each side in the stab. What do you think about that?

As long as the servos have enough torque it should be fine. If you have a particularly heavy engine it may even be a benefit. I am currently working on a Stinson for one of my flying buddies. It will have a 3 cylinder radial and may end up needing a little weight in the tail.

My servos for each elevator are 1.8 kg.cm.
according to your experience are they ok ?
the engine is a DLA 32 .not very heavy and more than enough power for this kind of plane I think.

Sorry to take so long to reply, I had to convert metric to 'Murrican. After having a look I would say that the EFlite servos really aren't strong enough. Even with metal gears I would not be confident with that amount of torque. EFlite is good equipment but more suited for lightweight electrics. After looking them up and translating in-oz or kg-cm the servos we are using are are 5.8 kg-cm, one per side. If you are at a point in the build where you are committed to servos mounted in the horizontal tail, you might want to consider thin wing servos if nothing else will fit.

Thank for the advice. I have another question about the wings . Could you share some picture about the « fixing system » to secure the wings to the fuselage before flying.

Here are some photos from the plane I have been working on. I would recommend checking the manual and looking at other build threads. This airplane has had at least two other owners and was largely framed up before it was passed on to me. The wing attachment appears to be generally as per the manual but I can not swear that everything is exactly correct. The location of the wing anchor screws is outlined in red. The screws should have washers to prevent pulling through the wood of the wing root. To use this sort of wing anchor it is necessary to have at least one functional door on the cabin. It is easier with two cabin doors.

Ok thank you.,that is more clear to me now. I checked again the manual, knowing now the system.... I,see the washer system but they could have been more explicit on this point.
however , I find this locking system not clever..... interesting hand in the cabin even when the weather is cold...! I am surprised that nobody found a better way to lock the wings more easily.
on my,side , I do not like at all the linking system to the servos, sonI change the elevators servos connection and also the tail one. I used cables to the tail and to the wheel tail.... much less friction by doing so
cheers
eric

I think the idea with the wing bolts or in this case screws was to have them hidden for scale appearance. I have to say that I am considering moving the aft wing bolt to a point ahead of the former. As designed you have to really reach very far back into the cabin and once the airplane is covered they will be difficult to see and reach. The person for whom I am finishing this model also wanted some interior detail so I have also made the seats removable so that i can reach into the cockpit more easily. There was also mention of the interior kit that was once available. Now that I have worked on the interior kit I would tell you not to bother with it. The only really useful part is the laser cut instrument panel which matches up with the instruments printed on the plans. The rest of the interior is just vacuformed crap. The control wheels are far too small. It is really just as easy to build up an interior out of foam and balsa.
