Question 71” sig j3 longerons/stringers/verticals frame

I have the top and bottom length horizontal stringers pinned and am now starting to think about cutting the verticals and angle pieces.
Does anyone have a accurate method?
im not a newbie but smart enough to ask for help.

do I need to remove the horizontal length pieces first?

thanks
Steve

Default fitting sticks

This is one of those " There is more than one way to........." deals.
There are quite a few build threads on this forum where builders have shared their ways of building - cutting - fitting..

For this task I have the opportunity to have a scroll saw and small disk sander set up near my building table.
Whether you pin the top and bottom and fit verticals to that or fit verticals and then pin top and bottom tight and glue should not make much difference.

To fit the verticals, I personally mark the sticks with a pencil, cut on scroll saw a little long, and then sand to fit.
Sometimes I will use the miter guide set for precise angles on the disk sander.
This will certainly add time to the build, but gives an opportunity to create some really nice glue joints.

How precise the placement is is not as important as that the outline of both sides is the same, and closely matches the profile on the plans especially in the cabin and tail incidence. Just try to get a good fit with no gaps in the glue joints for strength. When both sides are done I pin them together and sand the outline to match. I I just use a razor saw and sanding block to fit the pieces.

I use a simple manual mitre sander.
I avoid power sanders and do it manually because it’s difficult, at least for me, to achieve a perfect fit using a power tool.
You also need a lot of patience but getting a perfect fit in such stick structures is essential.
