Default GP RV4 aileron

Ello,

I am building the RV and I have a question about the aileron/flaps. I wont be using flaps because 1. it won't be neccesary to slow this model down 2. I haven't got a mix on my TX that allows me to use ailerons and flaps or flaps and elevator together. The ailerons and flaps are build in one piece, later on you cut them in two, that makes one flap and one aileron . A guy at my club told me not to cut in in half but to use it as one big aileron. This makes that I don't have to use a lot of throw, which is a good thing because the model won't slow down that much a when I use lots of throw. I this a good thing to do or should I cut them in half and go for the small aileron with lots of throw?

BTW should I use standard servos or something stronger because the one piece aileron is big.

I would recommend cutting the ailleron in half, as directed, then fixing the "Flap portion" permanently in place on the trailing edge.

This way, you have no flaps and the original aileron size, throws and configurations are retained.

Barto,

Craig is right about leaving the flap glued to the wing.
A consideration is stress. That's a BIG aileron for one
servo to move if you didn't cut it. 2x bigger. That's a
4x increase in force on that servo. (given same throw).

You would also have to modify the servo housing that
mounts to the wing, the hinges, the horn block (inside
the aileron). This would have to be done since you
would need to move that servo to the middle of the wing
to operate a full length aileron. It's just not worth it
and not necc.

I just flew my today for the first time and there is plenty
of Ail control. I have a bunch of pics of mine in MY Gallery
if you look under my profile. I am also trying to get Rv-4
owners to post pics of their planes at

GP RV-4

Please post how it turns out.
