GP Super Sportster 40, old vs new, any differences?
I have sitting on top of my stack of kits to build, a GP Super Sporster 40. Got it a couple weeks ago.
My plan is to bash this into a twin, using the plans available on RCM.
http://www.rcmmagazine.com/store/sto...m=plans:PL-930
Here's the question.. does anybody know if there are any differences between the previous kit version and the current kit (MK II).
IF so, what are these differences???
TIA
Lyndon

When GP released the MK II, they advertised it as having a longer nose to make balancing C of G easier. Not sure if there were any other differences. I built a .60 size SS, lots of carving on nose, great kit, and flew like a dream.

You can probably download both manuals from GP to get a basic idea how the construction differs. I would imagine that they will be at least similar enough to do the twin conversion from the RCM plans with just a few adjustments here and there. Having said that though, I've never done it myself.

There are a lot of differences between the two kits.
Sheeting the sides of the front deck
Adding a dihedral brace instead of using tapered stock
Wing mounted differently
Changing the front end to accept either a 4 stroke or 2 stroke engine without any mods
Removing the fiberglassed wing center reinforcement
Fuselage now has plywood side doublers instead of cross grained balsa sheeting
Leading and trailing edges for the wings are pre-formed
Fuselage bottom is die cut now instead of cross grained balsa sheeting.
If you need to know all the differences go to great planes web site and download the manuals. They have both manuals online.
If you have the new kit, you may have to reinforce the center wing joint, but the plans look like they mainly deal with adding nacels and closing in the nose.

That twin engine sportster is CooooL. I havent seen that before. I built the first version of the super sportster and there was alot of wood shaping but it was kind of fun. I love the plane though. I just got a good deal on the ARF version and they dont look much different externaly but you can see that they are built differently. I know the ARF and MKII kit dont build the same just thought id throw that in. Both planes fly great though. If you build the twin engine plane please post pics or better yet do a build thread. Have fun.

I second the build thread. I've been wanting to build a twin for some time. I was thinking a Bronco, but this might be interesting.
