Default senior telemaster engine?????

I know their are many threads on this plane-but i would like to hear the pros and cons to engine choice. I'm building one this summer and am thinking of a small gas motor, maybe the G20. (Recommendations please) Or i may go the other direction and put a OS81, YS63, or saito 82. Any opinions on gas vrs 4 stroke with regards to power, weight, landing. I do want to keep this plane somewhat true to form in being light, but will modify if need be for gas.

Frenchie, my choice is a Saito 1.00, it is a perfect fit, I have a TurboHeader on it plus a TurboHeader 90 degree adapter. I ran a piece of K&S tubing down through the beam mount to exhaust below the plane. The Saito 1.00 is a "just set it in there" installation, the balance is right on.

My Senior came in at 9 pounds. I use a Saito 82 and it has an abundance of power for the usual lazy daze flying the Senior supplies. The weight of the Saito was pretty much what the plane needed to balance out.

Thanks Guys-the black knight looks way cool. Any gas installations out their with success or problems. I heard with to much power-you can't land the thing.

It's not a fish story. The blasted plane does indeed float on landing. I guess a good pilot can handle the problem with proper slipping but my solution is to increase the plane's weight by 1 1/2 pounds this season. That should shorten the glide a bit.

I went with a one piece wing but even so the extra weight might be a little hazardous unless I use the struts I built but never install.

I've got the ARF that I recovered and converted to Trike Gear and am using an old OS Max H-80. IMHO a plain bearing 60 or 65 will work real well. A good used engine works real well in this model. They're cheap enough that you can just leave it in the model, forever........ and never have to worry about bearing maintenance or anything else. The Telemasters are like tools they tend to sit around untill you need them and when you do they always work. I always bring mine out when I take a friend to the field that has never flown a model before.

They're neat airplanes.

Hi Mark!! I had the old OS .60 in mine and it flew it just fine. Had to dive it to do A loop though. Two weeks ago I got to fly another one with the 60 or 61 in it, same story. I haven't seen anyone put A gas engine in one yet myself but I'm sure someone has for towing.
True, they don't want to come down and land. The complete plane is A flying surface and it wants to just float on by. It's the most fun you will ever have in the wind though.

I run a Tower 75 two stroke on the Telemaster which is pretty far towards overkill. It will handle the weight of a gasser fine. Mine flys better with some payload. One thing I'd recommend is to sheet the fuse. The tail feathers on mine flutter like crazy on the ground in the prop wash at full throttle. The stick built fuze is a bit flimsy......

I have a telemaster Sr. with a Maginum 91 4 stroke on it, it has tons of power. I can do inside and outside loops with it, i fly off or in some cases in the water. I had a .75 2 stroke on it but i love the power of the 91 4stroke. I can get it off the ground in just over 4 feet, its not a speed machine but tons of power. it has even been flown with a .40 on it but was a true dog.It is harder to land with the larger engines because it is such a floater. Anything is fun on these.

The BME Super Tigre G90 gas conversion would have been perfect for the Senior Telemaster.

While the G20 can surely be done, you would have to deal with a lot of tail weight, unless you shortened the nose an inch or so, which isn't hard to do. The model can surely carry the weight and still remain somewhat of a floater. Consider beefing up the landing gear mounting area also, if you go the G20 route.

I used a K&B .65 with a 12/8 prop on mine, it had enough power for sport flying.

I think i might go with glow and keep it light-I don't own a Saito so I'm looking at the fa82. Same cost as an os91 but MUCH lighter. This engine should pull the Telemaster around shouldn't it??

I run a Saito 82 on my Senior, great engine and it has more than enough power for the Senior.
