.40 powered Canard from a Zagi 3C wing?
anyone think a zagi 3c foamie combat wing would be too weak to handle a .40 sized engine?
i was think of putting some of that 3m spray on the wing, then gluing some balsa skins the EPP foam, its softer than the foam normally used to build foam core wings, do you guys think itll handle the weight/power?

lagcisco:
Almost any foam wing will serve as a core, I see no reason why the Zagi wing would not work fine.
But why bother? The Zagi is a nice plane as it is.
Further, I'm afraid you might find a 40 to be way too much power.
Bill.

Are you nuts?
Okay I figure you must be a relation to Tim Allen, or mayb you meant to say .040? A .40 would be simply too much engine, I don't even think you could get it to balane to be honest. I took my Zagi and messed around alot with it. I tried twin electric--sucked, single 450 on a 4x6 eAPC (actually pretty decent), and a .049 (ACK!...should use a .020).
I used a cox .049 and made up a throttle control for it (very cheap) and talk about unlimited vertical holy cow, dial the throws down or you will lose it. I did not sheet the wing...although that would be nice for finishing it if you wanted to cover it. If you stick with the tape, it will be fine, just add a smiley. Smiley = curved spar of 1/4" Carbon Fiber from wing tip to wing tip.
Last but not lesat I can't stress it enough, as I too am an experimenter, scratch builder, and modifer that the .40 is gonna kill your Zagi, a plane that can go vertical out of sight on an .049 just won't take the twist/torque, weight, or speed (flutter with the ailerons would seem a huge possibility) of a .40.
There are tons and tons of Zagi Modification sites out there...try searching google and you see them all...some take you step by step with pictures, engines, props, etc. I just no longer have them in my favorites.

.40 powered Canard from a Zagi 3C wing?
what are you guys wimps? Zagi + balsa covering + 40 = fun flying wing, add a fuz and canards and a 40 might be about enough
think how big a Zagi is... then have that as a wingspan..
40 is fine mate, carry on

theres a powered version of these, much like Zagis with small fuz's, we used piped 36's

personally, a Zagi sized flying wing sheeted and with a 40... ok in my book if i wanted a park flyer then that .049 is fine, bit noisy tho, the 480 is a cracker.
The flat bottom wing will give good lift, the Razor more fun, just sounds like he has a spare wing.

I thought about doing the same thing (have too many projects ahead of it right now). These sights may give you some ideas.

two different things?
I am confused (not hard to do)...maybe we are talking about two different things. A 17 oz Zagi with a .049 is anything but a park flyer and definitely not for the light of heart....that is the Zagi I am thinking of when you say a .40 so I just can't picture it.....mine with the stock 400 and a 6x4 apc (no it won't burn up) will do neverending loops and climb vertical for about 100ft. I only used the .049 on it a coupled times as it was just outrageous...guessing 75mph or so...PARK FLYER...maybe in Talledega?

i built a very lightweight 1M glider and put a 049 on for a laugh, just about pulled it about, the 070-079? Tiger engine would be nice, has throttle too.
This stock 400 of yours?, is it a 380 or 480? i thought all Zagis came with 480's, just im having trouble with my Micro-jet, it's got a 380 an 10 cell pack from a Wattage Sabre ( ok on 12 v and 5 min run time in Sabre ) on my "grunter" prop i get just 2.30 mins run time ( 125x110mm ) a 6x4 APC is even bigger! any prop susgestions?
A Shinden would kick ass!

Just a stock Zagi Motor
Not sure I thought it was a 400...its the 6v motor that has the Zagi Sticker on it. I also broke mine in properly and shoot a lil WD-40 in it before a day of flying. the 5x5 carbon fiber works good (much lighter), but I like the bite of the 6 x 4 apc better. I get about 10-12min on my 8cell sub c packs (depending on throttle).
