Great Planes Ultimate Biplane 40 Kit build
PLEASE share any tips or tricks. I'm new to building kits so assume that I know nothing and share all.
I'm blogging this build here:

This is my first kit so don't expect it to be a quick build. I'm working out of town for five weeks so this is a project to keep me busy. I have about 4-5 hours everyday to spend on it. It's taken me about a week to get the tail surfaces and the bottom wing finished.
Again...PLEASE share any tips or tricks. I'm new to building kits so assume that I know nothing and share all.

I have this plane and it's a fun flier. Built it stock with the newer OS 70, the 70 will power just fine. As MinnFlyer stated, follow the instructions, post questions on RCU if needed.
The only modification I did was to add 1 servo per aileron on the bottom wing. Not sure you need to do this, but I had two extra servos and did it.

Out of curiosity, how and where did you put the second aileron servo? Are they both in the center stock location or closer to the ailerons with no torque rods? I think I'm going to stick with the single servo since this is my first kit to build. I'm afraid if I make too many changes that I'll complicate things and make a mistake somewhere.
I did decide to make the servo mount flush instead of above the sheeting. I think that will be a minor, insignificant modification. I'm also taking the sharp edge off of all surfaces... stab, fin, rudder, etc... Just a little sanded curve to take the edge off.

I put the servos on the ribs next to the wing struts butted up against the spars. I had to lay the servos on thier side and they were still slightly above the wing surface (unsheeted area).
A single servo should work fine with this plane. Only thing I would make sure to have correct would be the wing and tail surface incidences. Wrong incidences on a bipe is more pronounced than on a single wing.

I built one of these a few years ago. I don't remember there being any traps to look out for. The build was pretty straight forward. The only mod I did was to not add the extra strips on the sides of the cabanes. Just use the flat cutout. I have TT .61 in mine. Its an awesome model and always gets comments at the field. It has inspired me to get a 50cc gas Ultimate. You'll be happy with this model.

Some say to change the aileron to aileron hardware to 4-40 to avoid flutter. OThers say this is not necessary. Take your choice.

Hi man,
here below few pictures of my own.
powered by a Magnum .52 (blue head)& Magnum pitts muffler;
hitec digital servos for tail controls (the cheapest ones);
fast hitec hs525 for ailerons (only 1 as per the plan).
It is a really joy to fly.
Enjoy the picture!

Definitely add the second servo. It's very easy to do, especially before you cover it. I flew it twice with one servo and got some flutter. It really turns into a fun flying airplane.
