Lancair Legacy... IMO it is the sexiest single GA plane ever!

Most any Golden Age Air Racer would be cool.

A Kit? I thought about that for a long time. But as I look at the trends It would indicate the sale of kits to be a good way of losing money. so I for one opted out. the Bulldog was mentioned and I am working on one now. Plans built 97"

Donnyman you're killin' me with envy! What a nice looking build. Please share some details! Did you use the Don Neil plans? I have a copy but got spooked by all the glasswork . Would you be interested in selling another set of fiberglass parts from your tools?

I thought there was a big enough niche for kits that no one else makes. I think that's the key. Seems like the Chinese ARF's are taking over the world, I know, but there are thousands of planes no one kits and many of you seem to want, so that's the direction I'm focused on. Well, that and some of us, having bought a few arfs, just can't stand the cheap materials they make them from and would rather make our own.

That Bulldog looks awesome, BTW. Kudos!

A "different" plane would be the FW-56 (Stosser). It is a parasol wing that was used as a primary trainer for the Luftwaffe and also as a German Home Defence plane. The plane is a nice flier, and as long as remember to "fly the plane", not the engine, has no bad habits.

I also like the Stosser or the Stork. But MIG 27 would be awesome. And with the swing wing locked full foreword there should be plenty of lift with the right airfoil.

I just came across this thread and am gratified at the multitude of real nice aircraft that have been nominated. Good kits are nigh on impossible to come across here and so if suitably motivated the enthusiast here generally goes his own way....

One model high on my wish list is a Zlin 526 around 100" wingspan. Some years ago I built one around 80" with foam core wings and glass fuselage. OS 90FSR for power and a wonderful performer. A few months ago I acquired a copy of the old Sig kit plan (built up fuselage and foam wings), had it blown up to 100" and figure a lighweight one of these with an OS 160 FX will get the juices flowing again....

I get excited a lot easier than that. I would be real happy with a Fiesler Storch with about a 40 to 60 size engine. And with working leading edge slats,,,,Cool .

Me-163b is my favorite plane of all time. Would love a 1/4 scale kit with rear exhaust. Here's a pic of someone's else smaller plans built in think.

OH yea the 163. And with Flaperons and a really light 3 channel radio the weight could be miniscule. I want mine to be a .15 size so I can use my AP .15 with the rear exhaust. that little guy runs great.

Hey everyone! Let's start a really interesting thread here!

Here's the question- If you could pick almost ANY plane to be turned into a kit (Fiberglass body, foam wing cores etc) what kit would you want to see me make available?

The only criteria I ask you to keep in mind are, it must be no bigger than the C-130 I offer on my website (108" Span, 61" Long) with no more than two engines, no biplanes, and it must be propeller driven.

I already have a custom made .46 race plane and a .46-.60 Pilatus Pc-6 Porter coming out soon, so I'm looking for the next one to kit in about 3-4 months. Whichever plane has the most interest by then I will consider kitting! Please, no Mustangs, P-47's or other commonly kitted planes, the goal here is to make something unique, but appealing enough that I can justify making the tooling. You can see my planes at www.penceaviation.com and in my store here on RCU.

Thanks!

The no Biplanes thing would make me look past your business immediately. I'm sure that you can well live without me though. There are tons of them from the Golden Age that have not been kitted to death. Sorry you aren't interested in doing one of them.

I didn't say never, I said not this time. I'm looking for kits I can add to my offerings without having to build two wings right now. Heck, one of my all time favorites is the trusty Stearman, I flew a full scale 1943 model a year ago and it was one of the high points of my life! Of course, this same exact plane is the first plane I ever remember seeing as a child, about 28 years ago, I grew up, moved away and all that stuff, then one day I got a wild hair and decided to see if that little family owned airport with the grass strip still existed... it did! So I called... Now, do they still have the old stearman? YES!

Can I fly it? YES!

Where do I sign?!!

I wasn't checked out for solo flight but had a ton of fun in the hour I was up. That's me up front. As you would expect, it takes a bunch more rudder than a cessna 172 and it's a bit more windy in the cockpit, but other than that it's a pretty straight forward airplane to fly.

I still think the Skyvan would be great, but would like to know what size range you have in mind, other than a maximum limit of 108". My point being that I would really really like to see one or more twin kits for .10-.15 size engines. A pair of Norvel .074s would be perfect, and the span would be in the 60-72 inch range...

I'm wide open- if enough people want a .15 skvan, I'm in. I was thinking of sizing it for .40's though.... I'm sure I'll end up with two sizes of some planes.

Although I am an avid i.c. plane modeller, I wouldn`t entertain the idea of a small 2 stroke powered twin. Its demise in short-order is more or less guaranteed....

Now a small (wash-your-mouth-out) - electric twin could be another matter......

But a small IC design lends itself to an inexpensive and simple e-power conversion...That's part of the reasoning for a smaller kit in the first place.

I would like to see more .15 size kits . I have way too many engines and I think the size is mostly overlooked by the mainstream. It is a nice size , small enough to be transported in the car trunk yet big enough to be easy to start and maintain (Cox reedies are a pain for example)

Great idea. The market is almost non existant of new kits, everything is an ARF and I applaud you for your venture. My suggestion would be the graceful Red Raven Turbine, but without the turbine. 72 inch wingspan, 60 2 stroke or 91 four stroke. A copy of one was in the last AMA Avation magazine. For all us Four Star 60 and Venture 60 guys this would be teriffic addition. I have built 3 of each and need something new.

If I do the smaller stuff since I'm working in fiberglass it will be silly easy to make a gas version AND an electric version of the same plane just by changing how many layers of fiberglass I use in the layup. I could set up the order form / button for "GAS OR ELECTRIC" and for example the gas version might be 4 layers of cloth and the electric might be 2-3 layers.

I'm interested in smaller planes too, for reasons others have listed- cost, ease of transport, etc. (take a look at the economy, .20 - .46 planes make sense right now more than ever.)

Now your talking my language. Look at the House of Balsa .20 size Mustang. Still as popular as ever but no ARF so it kinda leaves me out. [&o] I have one kit but I can't convince my buddy to build it for me,,,,,,Yet!

O.K., I have been watching for a nice 60" to 70" model of the Polish Wilga. something that a .70 Surpass would fly. Also a cessna 170 about the same size. I like that Hall Bulldog too.

I'd vote for a .60 size FW-190, the TA-152 version would be even better. The long nose and longer wing of the TA-152 would provide a lot more in the way of options and probably produce a pretty good flying airplane. Flaps and retracts would be a must.
