Default Piper Arrow in cowl engines

I am looking at building a TF Piper Arrow as my next big scale project. (I wish I could get my hands on a Bonanza[])

I am wanting an engine that fits completely in the cowl. Looking around at build threads it seems like a 91 4 stroke sticks out of the cowl.

What can I get inside the cowl? Would a twin be a good match for this plane. Something like a saito 100 twin or an OS gemini 120 twin be a good option?

One of these should fit nicely:

I'm in the process of building that same plane and I think I will be using that engine.

A friend has the Bonanza; he used a os 120ax and a modified pitts muffler to fit inside. I would think the Gemini too wide as it is about 7 1/2 in wide.

ply, could you give me the measurements across the firewall and across the front of the cowl?

I dont have the kit in hand yet so I cant measure it myself.

Thanks

I am thinking the gemini will be too big.

I am considering the rcv but the only drawback is that the fuel I get here has a higher content of castor than the rcv engines recomend.

I'm fitting mine with a Magnum 91. I will not need to cut the cowl. Valve covers clear the inside of the cowl by 1/8 inch. Engine is at 8 0 clock.

Thats great news. I have a magnum 91 NIB.

Deadeye, what retracts are you going with? The robart ones made for the kit are pretty pricey once you buy all the accessories to it.

A Super Tigre 75 with an in-cowl muffler fit well in mine, but it wasn't enough power. I'm going to put a Super Tigre 90 in it when I can get one, but the muffler won't work on that, so probably a big hole will be needed. If you can build yours light enough, the ST 75 should work.

I haven't got enough of it assembled to give you any measurements but from what Deadeye said your Magnum will work and I think that would also be a good engine for the plane.

I know how you feel about spending that much on the retracts. I am trying to put off buying them as long as possible but I really don't think there is a cheaper route to take.

I kept the stock firewall offset. I used a Dubro four stroke iso mount and mounted my valve covers at 8 o clock or so. I am just clarifying my previous post.

Tower just sent me a promo code for $60 off of $300. I was hoping to hold off on the retracts but I dont rememer that good of a code in the past so I will probably go ahead and get them.

How sturdy is the landing gear? I fly off a grass field that is not rough but its not the smoothest either. I am a little concerned about that.

Are you guys planning on painting or covering? I want to do the scale fins but they look like a challenge to cover.

I am leaning towards glassing with wb poly and painting but am not the best painter.

This plane wont be my everyday flyer. I want to scale it out and take it to festivals and fly it on really nice days. I enjoy the build as much as anything.

I'm going to use covering on mine. When you say "fins" are you referring to the corrugations? They tell you in the instructions how to cover them and it doesn't really sound that bad.

That sounds like a really good deal to me. Feel like sharing the promo code

$100.00 - $124.99 $15.00 016A1
$125.00 - $149.99 $20.00 016A2
$150.00 - $174.99 $25.00 016A3
$175.00 - $224.99 $30.00 016A4
$225.00 - $249.99 $40.00 016A5
$250.00 - $299.99 $50.00 016A6
$300.00 or more $60.00 016A7

These are the codes that came to me on my international account. I always get better deals on my international customer account than I do on my US account.

I was talking about the corrugations. I'll check out the manual. On scale models I generally prefer to paint bc covering is too shiny. However, with the arrow the shiny finish is a plus.
