Midwest Extra 300s to 300XS airfoil conversion?
HI all,
Hello Builders!
I am hoping someone can help me out, but I have a Midwest 300s Kit, and I would like to build the airfoil stab, as I belive this is the only thing that changed from the 300s to the 300xs kits that Midwest put out. If that is the case, is it easy to convert from one to the other? Does anyone have plans for the stab section? I would really appreciate some tips if anyone has any.
I have built this plane once, and never flew it. I put a Moki 1.8 in the first, and kicked myself every time I started it because I should have went Gas. I have a gas engine for this one, my only issue is the stab that I would like to modify for this build.
Thanks again!!!!

It's not worth all the work involved. The fuse sides will have to be hacked up to put a "saddle" in the tail for the air foiled tail. The stock kit has a flat ply plate for gluing the stab on. You'll have to cut an airfoil into the fuse sides to mount that new tail. Keep the incidence at zero. Don't move the stab up or down too much or you'll throw off the thrust lines and make it fly weird.
The plane flies just fine with a flat tail. Most guys would never know the difference if you took the plane off and handed them the TX. Put some hard points in the tail and use flying wires. Fly the snot out of it. They are good pattern/sport planes. Don't expect 3D. Keep it light.

Thanks for the tips guys. I wasn't sure if there was a way to modify the included flat stab and add some ribs/sheeting to gain an airfoil shape with a minimum of modification. But I thought I would throw out the idea and see if anyone has tried it before. As far as the servo and radio mounting, I always do my own thing anway, but thanks for the tip!
