GP Extra 300 vs. GP UltraSport 40+
Hey guys-
For my 3rd plane, I'm looking to build an aerobatic .40-sized plane (my first two are a PT40 trainer and a Super Sporster 40). I think I have narrowed it down to either the Great Planes Extra 300 or their UltraSport 40+.
Again, I want to build the kit, I'm not at all interested in ARFs. Here's what I like about each plane:
Extra 300
- Looks
- Unlimited aerobatics
Ultra Sport 40+
- Online reviews, seems to have the better following
- Retractable gear
- Speed
- Ads claim it is very aerobatic with the new design
What are your thoughts? Anyone have experience with both?
Thanks-
Dustin

Both great planes and good choices, I'm an Extra person myself but if someone offered me A Ultra I wouldn't say no. I wouldn't go out and buy one though. You have to pick the one you like the best or the one you think you would want to build the most. I have built one Ultra and three of the Goldburg Extra 300s. It's your airplane so you have to make the choice!!

I want the plane the behaves most like it's "on rails." I want it to fly straight & true, anywhere I point it. I'd like to make 4-point rolls without having to add much elevator. I'd like inverted flight with as little elevator as well. Unlimited (or close) vertical would be nice.
In thinking like that....I'm drawn to the Extra 300. But I also like the idea of retracts & speed, which I hear the US 40+ has. So, if both plans are equally aerobatic, then I'd probably go with the US40+.
I just don't know!

RedEDGE2k1,
It's hard to beat ANY Extra that is built straight for a "go where you point it" airplane. Especially if you want to do aerobatics which is where an Extra really shines. Even though the US40 can be built with reatracts, it will still not do aerobatics as well as an Extra. Of course, like Grey Beard says, Its your choice to make.
Just my 2C worth...

I have ultra sport 40 + and it flys like it is on rails you point it ant stay until you change it. Mine has the rectracts with OS .46 fx engine and it is fast nice and light two.
