RE: kadet seniorita build
Hey Andrew,
Nice build! im using CA sometimes when i have to, with a mask and goggles, other im using TiteBond 2 or elmers wood glue.
RCKen did a nice build of the LT 40, named: "pay it forward" make a search, i used it a lot.
you planed a lot of improvements to this plane, let me tell you, it takes much more time on the build and some times it makes you fix things....
its a very good airplane the seniorita, we have one at the field flying, its very old it says a lot.
im using a new pack of T pins for every plane and regular steel pins will do.
Looks good.
ah i miss laser cut kit parts from Sig
Good luck
Alex

RE: kadet seniorita build
since i am not building any dihedral, the brass tubes are drilled straight into the wing almost touching the bottom spar. what i plan on doing, is putting a brass tube in each wing half then glueing them in. the arrow shaft fits almost snug inside the tube. i plan on having one smaller tube on the rear spar as well. i am thinking of glueing the arrow shaft in the tube on one of the halfs. (probably glue the long one in the left wing and the short one in the right wing. since i plan to bolt the wings on, the fillet for FF will be glued to the fuse. on the LE material, im going to cut it so the front is flat. then i will glue in two dowels in the wing, and drill the holes in the FF fillet. then on each side of the TE im going to drill a hole so i can use 1/4-24 nylon bolt. then i have to glue two blocks (1"x1") and install blind nuts. if u are going to use dihedral, you will have to mark the ribs so that the tube will be straight. or u could buy the sig wing joiner kit which consists of a aluminum joiner plate, and a "pocket" that it slides into. i dont have much experience building two piece wings, so maybe someone here will chime in.
good luck with your build. are u doing a thread on it as well? if not, feel free to post pics on this thread. these planes are pretty much the same, so if either of us is having problems, maybe we could help each other out.
thanks for the kind words alex. i followed that thread, and ive also done one on the LT 25. i was definately spoiled with that one. but i like building, and i need something to get me through these long cold winters. when u use CA, i think u would have to use acetone to remove the glue from them. not that T pins are expensive, i just like things to last me.

im only doing the two piece wing, so i can cut my teeth on the proceedure before i try it on bigger more aerobatic models. next plane will be 60 size, then from there giant scale and gassers! will still have some smaller planes, cant beat them for price, ease of transport and of course... fun!
and the bomb drop, i was going to build one like the one i saw on youtube. cant remember the name, but a search should turn something up.

RE: kadet seniorita build
hey not much progress... been busy the last couple days. but i did get to go into wpg and get the supertigre GS 40 today! it is alot bigger, and a bit heavier than my old webra 40. hope it doesnt cause too many problems. i really want to run this thing, but i am worried that the low temps ( -5 C ) will be too much of a hassle. especially for a first run. i will put up some more pics probably by sunday or monday morning.

well i got the wing tip almost complete and the aileron is cut out, and i just have to sand and put in a strip of 3/8 balsa for the hinge points. i hope to get some work done on it in the next few days, but we'll see.

RE: kadet seniorita build
got a wee bit done tonight. i sheeted the wing tip, glued in the filler block for the LE, and im going to do a bit of work on (maybe even finish) the aileron. im having a hard time staying focused. it seems that when i get to the minor details, i kinda stall out.
heres the pics. first one i have all the pieces cut and fitted and tacked in place. i then removed one piece, glued and pinned it, then continued to remove and glue piece by piece. needs a little filler here and there, but im happy with how it came out. last pic is why i hate using pins for this. i was checking the fit on the bottom of the wingtip, and thats where my finger got reintroduced to a tpin! hurt like hell!

RE: kadet seniorita build
got a little bit done this morning. last night after i finished the wing tip, i decided to glue part of the sheeting for the d tube. i just glued the edge of the sheeting that contacted the LE, so when it drys i can easily bend the sheeting down into place. this morning i got that finished. thank god for wood glue! i should have wetted the sheeting, so it would bend easier, but i guess i wanted to do it the hard way . i just had to work fast and used masking tape and tpins to hold the sheeting in place. the aileron is almost complete, with a bit of final sanding/fitting to do. I have to wait til i glue in the balsa that goes between the top and bottom rear spar. pretty soon i will be able to start the right wing tip.

RE: kadet seniorita build
a bit of an update. i ve got the other wing built up to the point of sheeting the wing tip and glueing the d tube sheeting on. unfortunately, the hard drive on my laptop crashed, so ive been without a computer for quite a while now. I will post the pics of what ive got done so far as soon as i get my comp fixed. i also have my exam for my commercial pilots license on friday, so the build has pretty much stopped for the last few weeks. hopefully i pass the bloody thing, so i can get back to my build....

well, its been a good week. I got my computer back on wed, and passed my exam this morning. ive got the pics of the second wing and one of the left wing. first one is the filler block glued in for the hinges (robart hinge points) and the next series is the construction of right wing. wont be much explanation, cause the procedure is the same.

RE: kadet seniorita build
this last one is to show that beveling the sheeting that contacts the LE makes a cleaner job. I wish i had known this when i did the other wing...

RE: kadet seniorita build
not much of an update... i was going to prep for building the fuse so i could start on that while i finish the wings, but my foam building board is too small. i guess i will have to get a piece of tile from a lumber yard. i was kinda thinking of altering the fuse a little, by gluing a small piece of balsa along the top and sides of the fuse, so it wouldnt look so "boxy" and i was also thinking of closing the end of the fuse completely, but i dont want to build a banana fuse, so i might just leave that mod out.

RE: kadet seniorita build
thanks. im just down to the fine details on the wings, but if i can convince myself to sit down and work on them, they should be done pretty soon. im not going to shape the LE or do any final sanding, til the fuse is built and the model is ready to cover. No matter how careful i am, i always seem to bump the wing into something, so i dont really want to have to sand any more than i need to.

RE: kadet seniorita build
well its been over a month now, and i finally convinced myself to sit down and work on this thing. ive got the wing tip glued and ready to sand, the aileron for the right wing built and the servo mount for the left wing finished. now all that needs to be done is build the servo mount on the right wing, install wing tube, drill holes in ribs for the servo wires, and install hinges for the ailerons, and i will be ready to start building the fuse. I think im going to run to the lumber yard and see if i can find a ceiling tile big enough to fit the fuse. hopefully late tonight, i can do some of the finishing touches on the wings, and start to frame up the fuse. If i can schedule in a couple hours a day, i probably could have this thing ready for covering and paint by end of next month.

RE: kadet seniorita build
well, nothing done on the wings, (i decided to let the glue cure overnight) but i got a piece of tile for a building board, and i started the fuse. I think i really need to get a higher table, cause being bent over while checking the fit on all those sticks is hard on the back! At least i got the one half framed up. tomorrow will be a busy day, so probably wont get any building done. on the weekend i broke in my engine, and starting the fuse today has got me motivated to keep at this.
here are the pics:

RE: kadet seniorita build
well i got a bit done tonight. Ive got the second half of the fuse all framed up. and i finished the aileron on the other wing. I need to put in an order for some bolts and blind nuts so i can finish the servo mounts and some misc hardwood for servo mounts. ive got a flight test tomorrow, so depending on how it goes, i might get even more done. im thinking that i will leave the fuse and focus on the wings and get them finished. no pics this time, cause the battery for my camera is dead (left it on overnight) so i will post them tomorrow

RE: kadet seniorita build
Today was a good day. I passed my flight test, and got some work done on the fuse. Ive only got 3 pics of the two sides being joined. this is a fairly straight forward build, so not too much explantation needed. in order to make it a tail dragger, i will move the gear forward a few inches. you will see where there is blue tape wrapped around the formers. One thing that i did do to make my life easier was used the pre cut landing gear block to cut the wood to the right length. It turned out good, with only minor gaps here and there. when i join the aft part of the fuse, i think i will pre cut all the wood, so each piece (top and bottom) is the same lenght. this will prevent building a fuse that is a bit cock-eyed.
