RE: AMR 50 Trainer
Hello Matthew,
Your T50 is outstanding. If you ever have the chance to make a little film of the flying, it would be great to let us see the beast in the air...
Very nice modeling job.

You are both very kind...but close up there are a few 'warts', so it could be better. However, it is one of those kind of models that you can 'add to' for a while. Yes, I will get a video of it for you and I will photograph it too. Always a battle between competing priorities[].
Anyway I can safely say that it has been one of the most enjoyable model builds that I have ever undertaken. I can see much potential in a number of your kits for making them a 'bit different' ...a kind of landscape waiting to have something done to it if you can understand what I mean?

Hi MC
Many thanks for your encouragement. One advantage of this 'Mad Max' theme is that my craftsmanship does not have to be perfect. Although there have been times when I have really tried and not achieved what I had hoped for. Anyway like you, returning to the hobby after some years it has been good to try out different materials. I am sure that you will have fun with the Big Stick - I have flown one on the Real Flight simulator...wish you lots of good times making it!
Cheers

So it seems many of us have returned to building and flying after being away for in some cases decades. As for me I am simply amazed how different the sport is. Building adhesives, electronics, covering options...... I used water based polyurathane and spray paint on my plane. My first build was pure silk fabric and dope including color coat. Adhesive was tiebond and epoxy. Man how we have changed. It took weeks in the old days to frame up a wing. Now 1 night. The glue was so slow that I could screw up, realize it and fix it no harm done. Now I screw up and throw stuff away.

Yes this is so true! What a massive learning curve it has been...as you say Ron - so much is new -BUT so much more fun. Years ago I scraped together funds to purchase kits and very basic equipment. So many compromises and so many crashes! Now some years later the sport is so much more affordable - so much more predictable. Long gone are the days of pulse radio and rubber powered escapements - warped wings and tempremental diesel engines!

Hi Vincent et al
Here are few more photos of the 'Thing' - you see that I have named it 'Interceptor -1', it seemed an appropriate Mad Max type name. I cut the graphics from self adhesive vinyl and then over-painted them to give them a bit of the 'worn out' look. I used a Russian font to make it look that bit more menacing! You will see that I have also been messing about with Lithoplate - how I wish I knew about this stuff when I started making up the alu panels from plastic card and Aluclad! All of the wing leading edge is from this method and then alu rivets to provide a bit of texture.
I have used the model as a 'test-bed' for working with materials that I am not familiar with...I will soon be commencing a 25% scale Tiger Moth. I am getting many of the components for it made professionally as I have limited metal working experience and would rather spend my time assembling the model. I have just bought the new Saito FG 30 for it, but have yet to run it - looks beautiful.
Before I do start the TM I will get back to working on an udpate of the T50 manual, which got put on the back-burner as I made one last push to get the model completed.
Cheers

Hi guys
Thanks very much for your kind comments. How much time?....my partner says 'too much time! However, I have not counted, but many hours. I think I spent one weekend just putting the rivets on the wings...
It was 12 deg C here today - first time that the temperature has been in double figures for months....flying weather on the way [8D]
Vincent, I have sent Michel some pics by email - I seem to recall that you wanted some for your web site?
Cheers

I am pleased to see that you have resolved the detail at the top of the fueslage where it joins the leading edge. I always thought that it was not an easy junction on the T50 - which is why I built the 'hat' on mine - it also provides a very good handling point when lifting it.
...you sure have a draughty workshop

Well it has been some time since I posted. The T-50 is now the owner of a military contractor that conducts flight training on unmanned drones. THe plane has been converted to a tricycle landing gear along with some other modification that were not disclosed. However I was able to finally fly her and watch her in action. She is one great flyer. Capable of very short takeoff rolls and lands a a walking pace with full flaps. She also is very manuverable and has a very graceful roll when wanted. Oh she will snap too. Inverted flight is rock solid. Attached are some pics and videos.
