It will be loosely based of of the P-26 below. The wing will be white in the with added color to the outboard and inboard sections. Blue on the top and Yellow on the bottom.

What is the blue stuff you are puting on the plane. I've seen it in a couple of threads and no mention of what it is....Maybe I am just reading over it.
Thanks.
Thanks.

It is non-taunting nitrate dope that is used just to condition the wood and then to stick the fabric on. The nitrate dope has a small amount of tint in it just so you know where it has been applied. After that is done I no longer use it and switch to water base polyurethane to fill the fabric then Krylon oil base spray paint for finishing. After it is all painted and pin striped I will coat the entire surface with a couple of clear coats.

Thanks Anthony. However the skills are very basic. The camera is very forgiving. Good news is everyday I pick up a new technique.

I covered the right wing half yesterday. It turned out much better and went much faster. I suppose old dogs can learn new tricks. With the demise of my Rascal 110 I have a 26cc gasser that needs a home. Hummmmmm what to do?

That is something I want to get back to Ron. I haven't covered a model with anything but Monokote since back in the 70's. All we used then was Silkspan tissue and dope. I am tired of iron on coverings as they just don't stand up or look as good as covering and paint. I am going to have to experiment with these new nylon coving techniques and see how I do.

RE: AMR 50 Trainer
The material I used was 100% polyester dress lining material purchased from Hancock Fabrics. Overall it is OK but I think it is heaver than SIG Koveral. I may try that next time. The reason I chose the fabric is because it came 60" wide. Koverall is 48" wide so covering giant scale would require laying out the sheets long ways on the sheet rather than cross ways. The sheets for the wings on the 50Trainer are 24" x 55" so it would have worked out fine. I think I will try it out next time. Has anyone used the SIG Stix-it to adhear the fabric rather than dope?

RE: AMR 50 Trainer
Hi Ron,
What happened to the Rascal...did I miss that in an earlier part of the thread? Still waiting patiently for my AMR 50 to arrive....I have ordered Stix-it and SIG Koverall so I will let you know how I get on with it...just in time for your Stearman! Good luck with the painting - sounds like you are 'on the home run now'.

I stuffed it in the ground 2 weeks ago taking off in a cross wind and not paying attention. All pilot error. It is pretty bad. Just spent 3 months stripping the wing and adding flaps. Oh well ....... part of the hobby.

Really sorry to hear that.[] Was it really too damaged to repair? Or is that another project? Wish you all the best with the remainder of this build.

The Rascal is being repaired by a friend of mine who excels at putting planes back together. Plus I am so busy between work, gardening and the 50Trainer I just don't have time to put her back together. I have finished the covering on the 50trainer today. Whew!!!!!! finally over. 16 feet of fabric 60 inches wide. It is a lot of plane. Tomorrow I will get some pics uploaded.

RE: AMR 50 Trainer
Hi Ron...happy Easter to you...and congratulations on completing the covering. A useful insight concerning the amount of fabric that you have used. I ought to check my order for the SIG Coverall. I still await delivery of the kit, lets hope that the Somali pirates have not hijacked it...it was coming over the UK bu sea...hopefully not that far south, unless the ship took a right turn before it should have done!
I am madly trying to get all the house jobs done before it arrives, so that I have built up enough 'credits' to indulge myself for a while
Have fun with the painting..

Do you have the Saito 220 gas or nitro Hobbsy? This kit is pretty awesome. But actually one of the things that make it so good is the Gang at AMR. I have been building this kit since Christmas and AMR has made several changes to the kit based on ideas we have shared. Michel is very open minded and listens to his customers. The plane I am building has the addition of the optional flaps. I love planes with flaps. I am very excited to get it completed. There is a big fun fly here in central Arkansas the end of May that I am scrambling to get the plane done for. Not only to fly but to showcase another wonderful product from AMR. The end of next year will bring a Stearman kit that AMR is working on. To feel the gap I see a giant stick on the table. That monster stick just scares me. Its almost as big as the field I fly out of.

Ron, I have the glow version, the first one my LHS received but I have added CH Electronics Ignition/Synchro Spark for a super smooth idle. I also have a SuperTigre 4500 Diesel conversion but I think it would be a bit much.

RE: AMR 50 Trainer
I am guessing the plane will be around 27 pounds finished. I am installing a rc showcase SV-50 50cc. That a 5hp motor which is much more output than the 220. I don't think the 4200 would be too much for it. Maybe Michel can jump in here. All I know is gas engines are getting really affordable and the fuel is cheap. They are easy to start and run great. No mess on the plane either. Yes you have to have a battery for the ignition but that is not a big deal. Troy Built is selling the engine for 295 american.

I have the white base coat completed and I am starting to apply color coats tonight. When I have something other than a big white plane to show I will post some pics.

One thing for sure Super is the wing feels like a monolithic structure after covering. I am having fun with the color coats. The will be non other like it.
