Default I'm doing a KIT!!!

OK I have not built a kit since I was 14 years old (29 years ago)! I know that is sad but it is so easy o do ARF's these days. I recovered a Four-Star that I had and really enjoyed it.

So the GF has night classes this semester and well I cant go done to the pub every night. Let me rephrase that I shouldn't go down to the pub every night.

So with the next few months of free time after work I am going to get back into a build. I found a few classics from Balsa USA and was wondering if anyone has flown them?

Excaliber

Smoothie

maybe even...
1913 Etrich Taube 90
http://shop.balsausa.com/product_p/394.htm

Thanks for any input!!!

U of Houston doctorate in '89! Go Coogs!!!! Not familiar with the Excaliber but the Smoothie and Taube are great airplanes. I'm partial to the Taube because I like WWI a lot!

Having flown control line stunt competition, I'm partial to the Smoothie.

Yeah me at Texas A&M Galveston then finished my BS in chemistry at U of H.

The Taube does look cool. Totally different than anything I have.

Was even thinking of a Bipe but don't have a large vehicle to transport to the field.

How about the BUSA Phaeton II ? It has the same wing span as the Smoothie, but has two wings. Would it fit in your vehicle ?

The Taube is very nice and lends itself well to scale-like additions. It has the wing loading to tolerate those kinds of goodies!

Good choice, something you don't see everyday. It's always nice to stand out at the field!

Awww shucks. I was hoping for an Excaliber build thread.
I have considered the Excaliber several times, but never went through with it. Those twin rudders look cool. But I don't think there is any good way to make them functional. Except for looks. That said,I have owned a lot of planes with a functional rudder that didn't function all that well even though it was functioning
At any rate, congrats on the Taube. It will be unique also

It's not too late for you to start an Excaliber build Smashmaster! I can guarantee we'll all follow it.

Too many airplanes and not enough time. Buildin season is almost over, and flyin season will be here before I know it. Too bad I got to work for a livin, instead of buildin airplanes.
I think the Excaliber is one of those I would love to build, but probably will never get around to doing it. But then again.....Who knows

A hollow core stab, one 90 degree bell crank inside connected to a wire with the ends bent up and protruding thru slots in stab to receive the rudders would work like a champ!
