Default AMR 50 Trainer

I have been reading about AMR's newest entry into the Giant Kit market. I have been wanting to move uo to a larger class but the $$$$ were just out of my grasp. Here is a kit that looks real promising. I started this thread waiting for those who decide to jump in. Here is a link for those interested. Ron,
I am building their 33% Waco and I can tell you the kit quality is excellent. The wood seems to all be of good quality and the laser cutting is clean. Most of the parts simply fall out of the sheets. All of the hardware included is also good quality and heavy duty. IF you are looking for a G/S kit I don't think you can go wrong with an AMR kit.

You remind me of a You Tube video I watched a couple of days ago where a guy took up a jet on it's maiden flight. It sounded like he had a real gas turbine in it - not a fan jet. It was a short flight and the plane didn't just break up, it burned to a crisp - leading me to believe it was carrying some pretty volitile fuel. The video ended "$7,000.00 up in smoke". Heck, I get nervous spending $75.00 for a used fuel engine.

I have to say I am lost on that one myself,
To each his own, after you have been in this hobby many years your tatse for aircraft change. When I first started in R/C big planes were just a dream from a money stand point and there were very few kits if any available for giant scale. I see people putting 10's of thousands of dollars into R/C jets, more power to them if thats what they want and they have the funds. I know guys that spend alot more $$$ playing golf than I spend on R/C.

This will be the 1st kit I have built in 20 years. I have been away from the hobby for over 16 years and got back in it last February. I have put together 3 arf kits the last being a Rascal 110. I am modding the 110 right now with flaps. As soon as the funds are available I will get the AMR 50 trainer. I think I can get into it without spending much more than I did the Rascal ARF.

Hello All,

Michel and myself have designed this very nice and sturdy aircraft, the AMR trainer 26, and the AMR trainer50 is just a scale up of the small 26cc plane. I have my own trainer 26 with the flap and unfortunately, my car is too smal for the trainer 50 but i can tell you one thing, the 50 cc trainer will be much more fun than the 26cc that is already very enjoyable to fly. The 26cc trainer when flaps fully deploy is something to be seen. We did pretty little movies. This plane will be great on land and on float. The trainer 50 should be also very good at pulling large gliders in the air since the takeoff distance with or without flaps will be very short and the speed of the plane is reasonable. With the 50cc, i expect this trainer to have quite a good vertical capability (HUH! for a trainer?). In fact, we believe that a 40 cc will be very good to fly this plane.

This plane is very cool to fly. I did the first few flight on my 26cc trainer 3 weeks ago (just before it start to snow) and i am eager to make another day of flying with it. Hopefully when the lake will be frozen.

I am excited about this build. As I said it is my first full build in 20 years. It will be very interesting from a Novice point of view as I go through the build. The plane is on its way and also a SV-50 from RC showcase. I am currently adding flaps to my Rascal 110 which is powered with a Zenoah 26cc. By the time I have that completed the 50 Trainer should be here.

Ron,

Since i did the design work and the manual, i would like to invite you to give me your comments as the building goes. If you have any question, feel free to ask me for construction information. If something is ever missing in the kit (this should not happens), contact Michel.

You are gone to get two wing set in your kit because the kit was already packaged without flap before the flap kit was finalize. Michel have added a full wing set with flaps to the original kit. So, you will have two pair of wings. One with flap and one without. You will have balsa to build only one wing set but i dont think you will build both. You can easily modify the noflap wing if you want to add flaps

Thank you Vincent. This will be a good test from the building end since I am a novice builder.

Let me add my prospective of why I find this kit so appealing. I am one of those guys that love Giant airplanes but not necessarily giant scale. As I said before, I am currently flying a Rascal 110 which is an ARF kit from Sig Manufacturing. It is a very nice plane and flies great with a 26cc gas. The down side to the Rascal is that it has no flap option other than programming in flaperons. I don’t care for flaperons very much because I feel the loss of ailerons authority when the flaps are down is significant. However, when the flaps are down the Rascal has a much slower approach and is able the shed altitude without gaining excess groundspeed. So I am adding Fowler flaps to my Rascal similar to what is on the AMR 26 trainer. I have about $1200.00 American invested in the Rascal so far. So I wanted to step up to a 50 size plane. Like I said I want a big plane, (I don’t see very well in my old age), but I am of modest means so the cost of big planes, especially if they are scale, is beyond my reach. In comes AMR. These guys have a couple of giant trainers that seem to fill this niche of being big but not too expensive. They are not scale planes but to me and some others, being a scale plane is not important. In addition, the build procedure with the wing and fuselage jigs, looks like a great addition for us novice builders.
So that’s where I stand. I am excited and ready. It will be a fun build and with the support from Vincent and Michel I do not foresee any problems that can’t be overcome. I will also keep track of build cost so I can give a realistic estimate of what someone could get into a 50 Trainer for.

The RCS SV-50 will be here December 23rd. The Trainer 50 is shipped but I have no anticipated arrival date. It has to clear customs since it is coming from Canada. I will start posting as soon as they arrive. I will start with how the kit was packed and the condition it arrived in. Nothing more frustrating than opening your new toy only to find it damaged.

Ron,
I don't think you have anything to worry about, my Waco was packed great and there wasn't anything damaged and it cleared customs in no time. My kit was so large it looked like a hobby shop exploded in my basement. You will be impressed when you open the box!!

I don't think so either. I just received an email from Michel about how they pack the kits and man do they pack it well. I also received a notice from FedEx that the package will arrive December 29th. My son will be here from Texas then. It will be cool. He is 13 and has never seen my planes or me fly. I was away from the hobby his entire life until last February. My step son who is also 13 flies with me and has 2 planes. A Sig LT-40 and a 20 year old 40 size spitfire made by Dyaflite. RC flying has been very good for him.

Thanks Michel. If I am correct, (my French is not very good), the 1st landing was wit the flaps up and the second with the flaps down. Is that correct?

You need asking questions to Mr Vincent, he is the Master Brain who design it and fly this one,
He draw a Monster Hot ,12 feet wingspan, with all modification and new concept the aircraft name is SCARFO

Ron,

Concerning the first landing shown in the movie, I was filming while another pilot was in command so i am not sure but it look like the first landing was done with 50% flaps while the second one uses full flaps deflection (about 60 degrees).

And yes it is me showing off this giant HOT that we intend to fly next year in fun fly around here. It was such a good little chalenge to make the design for this one and i can hardly wait to see it fly. This thing will be terrific

Also, i want to metion that in the picture of the HOT, there was nothing glued. The whole thing was sticking together because of the fine fitting of all the parts.

Just recieved a FedX update and the kit cleared customs and will be here Dec. 30th. The engine is in Little Rock Arkansas and will be here tomorrow.
