Default Ultrasport 1000 firewall

I am looking for some information on an ultrasport 1000. I picked one up used and did not get all the plans for it. The plane is already boned up and the guy was going to put a gas engine on it. I am going to put a glow engine on it. I believe there was two places to put the firewall and he used the back one for the big engine. OK
Can anybody tell me how far to move the firewall back to the front to get it set up for a 120 glow engine? I have been thinking making some standoffs for it.

Thanks Bryan

You should be able to order a plans and instruction set. Just send an email to:

Bax Thanks for the information. I was just hoping that someone had a US100 they could give me a quick measurement. Wing to spinner would help. If not I will look into getting some plans.

Thanks again Bryan

flyinbr... I shot some pictures of my plans for you.

On all 3, I measured between the front of the firewall to the front of the nose.
A=6-1/8"
B=6-1/8"
C=5-3/8"

I also measured from the front of F1 to the back of the firewall at the approximate bottom and top of the firewall.
A= bottom 5-5/16" top 5-1/8"
B= bottom 5-13/16" top 5-5/8"
C= bottom 6-11/16 top 5-5/8"

Hope this helps.

Greg

I hope you are using a 1.20 two stroke. This is a LOT of plane for a 1.20 four stroke. I think a Saito 1.80 would be a much better four stroke for it.

I see oldrookie beat me to it, but I just went out & snapped some pic's of my plans. Looks like 6 1/8" on right side & 6 3/16 on the left side. this gives the 2degrees right thrust for the engine. This is measured from the rear edge of former #2 without the added former for the wing dowels on its rear side. Excuse the blurry pics, cel phone camara not the greatest. If yours is already mounted, then just add that difference. I will be putting a saito 180 in mine this spring. Hope all goes well with yours. Bill

Do you have the spec. How many inches for the spacer that goes from location of back firewall to the front firewall. Am using a Webra 1.20 2 stroke. “Die cut 1/8 ply spacer for location C only.” We have old firewall in already and need to move it forward for a glow engine. Old owner was putting a gas engine on. I have a 1.80 4stroke but want to use the Webra. What would really help is if you could give me the measurement from the front of the wing saddle to the firewall. Thanks for the help. I like this plane.

perfect!!! Just what I needed. It looks like the old owner put the firewall in the wrong place for the engine he was using. It comes out perfect for the glow at that measurment. Good luck with yours with the 1.80. Will be a nice combo. Thanks for all the help. I need all I can get. LOL.

OK after looking at it longer I figured out what he did. He has the setup in it for the 4 stroke so I made some short standoffs to put the 2 stroke in. I think I got it now. Thanks everyone.

Actually, the Ultra Sport 1000 flew very nicely on an O.S. FS-120 Surpass. That airplane also had full tri-gear retracts installed as well. I guess you'll want more power if you are trying to get 1,000-foot vertical lines or perform 3D-type maneuvers. This airplane really wasn't designed for that.

I didn't own one set up with a 1.20 four stroke but saw one fly several times. Compared to my 60 size US with a ST 75 ,it was a dog. Maybe the one I saw was built heavy? A Webra 1.20 with a 16x8APC should pull it around nicely.

I also think we are spoiled BAX. When I started 20 years ago our planes were overpowered compared to full scale. Now they are WAY overpowered. Engines and props get better and planes get lighter and stronger.

We are definitely spoiled by the power that is available today. When the US 1000 first came out the hot ticket was either a Supertiger 3000 or an O.S. 1.20 Supercharged. Neither of these engines cuts the mustard today. I have an Ultrasport 100 with an O.S. 1.60 and I can get 1000 foot vertical uplines. It won't 3D but who cares, I am not a 3D pilot. But I love my space shuttle uplines!

I'm building my 3rd US1000 right now. Fixing up a damaged one count as building? Lets say I'm repairing the 2nd airframe. Anyway, I've built them with the firewall forward and aft. I've installed an S.T. 3250 (lots of power, but heavy), an O.S. 1.08, and an O.S. FS-120. A 1.20 sized 2 stroke or better is a good match. An S.T. 2300 (1.4) would be a very good match, but an O.S. 1.08 on a tuned pipe provided plenty of ooomph. I've seen one flown on a .90, and it got around the patch OK. What a classic design!

This plane is being built mostly for sport flying. Between my brother and I we have a pretty good colection of diff. planes. Gaint yak, extras, and about ten more planes. This 1000 should be a good circle flier.

Got some more work done on the nose. Went out and got a different motor mount that is longer so I don’t have to use stand offs. Starting to look much better now.

I had a ST3000 in mine, great flying plane. I got mine the first year they came out.

Hi Ken A guy at the old club had a ST3000 on his US1000 and it flu very good with that setup. I ordered a muffler for this one and I am waiting for that to get here so I started working on the tail section. I am redoing the elevators
