CA Hinges
Greetings,
I am building a Goldberg Tiger 2,and it has "CA" hinges. Should I use them,or replace them with pinned hinges or something else>
I dont know how strong these hinges are,or how long they will last.

I'll answer for Minn - you drip the CA right on the middle of the hinge, right where the hole is. The hole lets it go deep inside, and its normal wicking action will spread it out to the sides.

CA Hinges
Well, I won't say CA hinges are no good, but I will say that I won't use 'em as long as I can either get Klett hinges or I can buy or make sewn gapless iron on hinges (by far my all-time favorite).

My favorite hinge, for easiest pivot, maximum service life, and tightest control surface gaps, has become the Robart's "Hinge Points." I still use, appreciate, and enjoy the convenience of CA hinges on 40-60 size airplanes for casual flying.
Yes, I have seen CA hinges fail, but I've never had a failure on any of my planes.

I agree with you if the basic things are done correctly, but I've actually evaluated various brand of hinges on scrap balsa with a plier pull test. The drill hole actually help to get the ca wicking deep into the slot. But nifty hinges don't need them as they have a slot in the middle. I hate the mess it creates after you've sanded beautiful bevels. Another result I found is that the diff brands exhibit diff interfacial strength between the inner core layer and the outer porous layer. That's why I've given away certain brands in my inventory............

How about this?
Like many, I've installed hundreds of CA hinges. Never had a failure and the job goes very quickly, now that I've streamlined the technique.
1) Put a crayon stripe down the middle of both sides of the hinge at the flex line. The wax crayon will keep CA off the hinge center for more flexibility. Try to pick a color that helps to "hide" the hinge. Don't be a wise guy and use a Magic Marker!
2) Slide all the hinges into the slots up to the crayon line at all locations of a control surface.
3) Disregard every instruction ever written and put a micro dot of thin CA on one side of each hinge, at the crayon line with the control surface held upright. The CA should roll off the crayon line and down into the wood. You probably can't get a micro dot from a CA bottle, you'll have to use a bulb applicator, or even a toothpick dipped in CA. This step will keep the hinges perfectly in place without pins. The pinholes can lead to tears in the hinge, especially if the hinges are brittle because you didn't put a crayon line on them.
4) Once the CA has dried well (about 2 minutes) mate the control surface hinges into the slots of the plane. Flex the surface to its maximum deflection while holding it tight against the plane and dribble the rest of the CA (3-4 drops) onto each side. Again, this is hard to control with a bottle, easy with a bulb applicator.
Voila! All done.
Once you feel how flexible the hinges on a control surface are with the crayon line, you'll never skip that step again!

I don't flex the control surface before dropping the ca. I find that I can get more consistent gaps by placing round headed pins (the ones you put on the notice board) in several points along the gap. The round plastic heads keep them from falling thru the gap. Slight flexing may be done to facilitate ca application. In any case I seal the gaps with clear monokote.
