Marutaka FW190A construction
Well, here are some photos of the Marutaka FW190A kit that I have been building.
I modified it for mechanical retracts (let's see if it works with such length). Also done up the split flaps.
Wings have been sheeted (photos later). Most blocks carved and sanded. The last two blocks are the ones I dread - wing root flairings. Any suggestion how to do this?
Engine planned is an ASP 91 4 stroke.
It has been 1 year and 2 months of slow on-and-off work on it. In the same period, I completed 6 other kits.

The tail after re-cutting the stab from sport to scale size.
I am thinking of putting in a standard mechanical tail retract - not the FW190 version.

I have stopped for a while on this kit. Have sheeted the wings but thats about it.
I am building two other kits at the moment - need a break from all those Marutaka blocks of wood!
Are you interested to get this kit?

I think there is still one FW190A left at Singapore Hobbies.
It's a slow build kit from my experience with it. Quite a bit of guess work.

yes, i have looked at the kit several times when i go to singapore. it is so tempting to buy but i still have a TF Spitfire, the Marutaka Zero, and a Sig Cub to build plus i'm scratch building a Fairey Flycatcher. btw, i bought the Zero from SHS.

This is probably my last Marutaka kit for a while. I find that they required a lot of guesswork especially in alignment of parts before glueing.
I prefer the Pilot and TF kits.

i built the Marutaka .35 Corsair about 15 years ago when it was kitted under the Royal name. it's been so long that i hardly remember any specifics but i do recall that i enjoyed the building. i still have the plans and instructions and comparing that corsair with the current zero kit i found that the current kit is pretty vague in the instructions department.
i too like the Pilot kits....built the .20 Zero and .35 Mustang but a little small for me.

The FW190 kit comes with two pages of typed instructions (ie from a typewriter). However the two plans are quite detailed.
How did you find the Pilot .30 Mustang? I like to build one. From the specs, the wing loading looks quite high for its size.

java, the only site i know of is the hobby barn site for marutaka kits.
pauser98, i'm still in the final finishing (painting) stage with the P51 and, thus, haven't taken it out for it's maiden yet. at work in the philippines now and won't get back to taiwan to finish for another couple of weeks. will post when i have the maiden flight. but don't hold your breath for too long as it's taken me close to a year to get this far.....i'm excruciatingly slow at building.

After four years and counting, here are some more photos of the Maratuka FW190A. I have been building it on and off. It's now covered with Oratex.
The retracts are mechanical.

Thanks, almost there. I wonder if the long undercarriage can take the weight. It kinds of wobble
at the moment. I am thinking of drilling out the retract and putting in a bigger strut.
