Question about balsa wood????????
Hello, I have a kit of a Rearwin Speedster and my wifes cat urinated all over my balsa wood. Is there any way to get the cat pee stench out of the wood or is this kit ruined?
Any feed back would be great...
Thanks, Capt. Walker

RE: Question about balsa wood????????
Might sprinkle baking soda all over it, it is a good smell fighter. Everything esle I can think of would be invasive to the wood, like amonia and clorox!

RE: Question about balsa wood????????
First thing kill the cat. Baking soda is probably the only thing that will work. Stanley
Steamer ( the carpet cleaners) has some stuff that will get rid of the smell. Maybe if you can mix it with some alcohol. The alcohol will make the liquid evaporate faster. Make sure you don't warp the wood ( we USED to have a cat.) Don't ask me what happened.

RE: Question about balsa wood????????
Cat urine odors are very difficult. There are enzyme cleaners made specifically for the task but it's less than perfect. And who knows what effect it'll have on the balsa. Look here http://www.insiderreports.com/storyp...oryID=20011809
The other issue is that a cat will continue to use a place where it smells it's own urine. So if the kit is accessable it'll be used again.
I'd say replace all the wood that's been ruined.

Perhaps some Oust?
Heed the warning someone pointed out, if the cat has used it he will do so again.
Then again she may have trained the cat to select specific targets...
lol

The odor will eventually disappear. Maybe you can make the cat do the same.
Tomcats spray to mark territory. he just claimed your plane as his. He's also demonstrating dominance over the other males (YOU). He will continue to mark this any chance he gets. Get yourself a spray bottle with water, hide and wait for him to get near your project, then nail him with the spray. But you may just have to keep him out of the building room.

or there is the easy way. give the cat up to a shelter, and as far as everyone else is concerned, it ran away...

You can also seal the wood with a sealer like kliz (SP?) it will add a bit of weight but it will keep all of the orders in.

RE: Question about balsa wood????????
The cat pee is highly acid. The baking soda will reduce the acid content, but not the smell that much. Clorax sprayed on it will foam up, and give it a couple minutes and then blot it up with paper towel. Spray it again and blot again. When it quits foaming, you are home. Leaving the acid on the wood will deterate it badly. You need to get it off, or replace the wood.

Stick the cat's carcass in the plane and in a few days you won't notice the smell of the urine....

Yet another reminder why I shouldn't drink my coffee at the keyboard
Seriously, I've used [link=http://www.odormute.com/]this[/link] for those offensive organic smells with some success.
