RE: Sig Four Star, what mod's would you do?
I used a 2 1/4" but I agree that a 2.5" may be better as it would give a little more room around the engine, but I am happy with the results from the 2/1/4.
The pipe on the side was for the crank case vent, but i have subsequently routed this out the bottom of the cowl.

Hey Guys! UPdate!
Here's my photo. I need to finish my graphics. I'm doing Anthony Keidis's Tatoo's from the Red Hot Chili Pepers, since I went with the red theme.
I'll post photos when it's done
Thanks for your help
Tim

Not sure. Probably this weekend.
I need to do servos, and control horns etc. Not too much more. I would say no later than this weekend. I'll keep you posted

Great job on your plane. The covering scheme looks great.
I can't tell, but it looks like you covered the whole plane in red. I did this with my Four Star and it was pretty tough to maintain orientation. You may want to add some highly visible trim to the bottom of the wing.
It is a great flying plane, and you are going to love it.
Good luck

thanks for the compliments!
Actually, on the bottom, the wings are white. They are all white, with 3 stripes on each side for a total of 6.

Hey Guys
FInishing up the plane. I need to know how to secure the aileron servos? It says hardwood, but what do I secure it to? The dihedral brace and aft brace? Wing rib to wing rib? Some other way?
I don't want the torque to tear up the balsa on the wing
Thanks
Tim

I installed my aileron servos in the wings so I didn't pay too much attention to that part of the instructions, But from other planes, some plywood or spruce rails epoxied to the wing to scerw the servo to would be fine.

Hey, nice vid!
Can someone please tell me what is included in the 4 star package and what I will need to complete it, because I can't find info regarding the size Spinner and Wheels I will need to use , oh and can someone please give me a good place to buy the 4 Star? I have checked SIG MFG
THanks!

Posted elsewhere.
I mounted a OS Wankel on mine. Made a round cowl, loose fitted to allow air circulation. Sure had a neat old timey radial engine look.
Great vertical performance when you goosed the throttle. Quick rev up. (Used a 9 by 5 wood prop.)
Engine is a gas hog so need larger than 8 oz tank in that skinny nose. I got a 10 inch round tank crammed in.

RE: Sig Four Star, what mod's would you do?
It's been about a year since I last crashed my Four Star and I'm just now getting around to building a new wing. I'm planning to clip the wings, remove the dihedral, and add side force generators. If anyone sees this, have any thoughts or input for me?

I would not remove the dihedral, forget the side force generators.
If you want a 3D plane get a new air frame.
clip the wings, play with other mods but if you intent to 3D with this plane I would look elsewhere

It's the .60 size with a Magnum .91 4c. It did some 3d before, and to be honest, I'm just trying to push the envelope and see what it'll do. Half of this hobby is experimentation, and just plain old doing whatever seems fun

First, if you take the dihedral out, the plane will roll opposite to the rudder. Low wing planes need dihedral or sweep back to counter the low location on the fuselage.
Second, chop off 1 rib. It will roll better & faster and you probably won't notice it on landings.
Third, the tail, both vertical & horizontal is small. I would and have widened the rudder to 4 inches and the elevator to 3 inches.
Fourth, get a DuBro Super Strength landing gear from Tower. They are fiberglass reinforced nylon and will not break. You can literally flatten them out on a bench, release and they snap back to their original shape. I use then on lots of planes.
4a. I haven't done this on a 40, but have on 2 60 sizes. install ply half ribs, add mounting blocks and put the gear in the wings. You could nail the power on takeoff (OS .91FX & Magnum .91XLS with Ultrathrust muffler) and it would track straight like it was on rails.
It is an easy kit to modify/bash into anything from a semi-scale plane on. I did my two 60s into Kawasaki Ki-61 Tonys.
