Default balsa usa Northstar

My Northstar is nearing completion.
I am planing most of it's use to be on water, but am concerned about how much water gets in past the hatch cover ?

How far do Northstar builders go with water proofing ??

I have thought about locating all of the radio gear into a sealed sandwich box, is this overkill ???

has anyone been succesfull with just sealing the hatch cover & how was this achieved. ????

any pictures, tips, help, or advice, would be much appreciated.

On ANY seaplane it is always a good idea to seal your receiver in a plastic bag.

I usually add a strip of clear tape to the canopy seams before flight

Here's my Northstart. OS .50 FSR for power. I've flown it a bunch with gear on a paved runway. I did fly it off water and the bottom blew out on rough water. Here's a video link of it on YouTube:

Mine was Super Coverite and then painted with epoxy paint. My LHS owner did the white for me, he was set up with a nice spray booth. Then, I did the blue and neon pink.

Mine had the balsa bottom with a light fiberglass cloth applied. That wasn't enough for high speed on chop. So, now my bottom is 1/8" lite ply. Yours should be fine. I mostly fly mine off pavement.
